Hong Kong Girl Guides Association () is the sole Guide organisation in Hong Kong. It was formally established in 1919 though the first Girl Guides Company was formed in 1916. The association became a full member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1978. It serves 55,145 members. Programme There are six sections in the Guiding programme. * Happy Bee (快樂小蜜蜂) is a Parent-Child Programme for ages 4 to 6 years old * Brownie (小女童軍), from 6 to 12 years old * Guide (女童軍), from 10 to 18 years * Ranger (深資女童軍), from 15 to 23 years old * Golden Guide (樂齡女童軍), over 60 years old * Guider (女童軍領袖), volunteer leader, over 21 years old # - includes Sea Rangers (15 to 23) and Air Rangers (17 to 23). World Association Of Girl Guides And Girl Scouts
The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS ) is a global association supporting the Girl Guides, female-oriented and female-only Guiding and Scouting organizations in 152 countries. It was established in 1928 in Parád, Hungary, and has its headquarters in London, United Kingdom. It is the counterpart of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). WAGGGS is organized into five regions and operates five international Guiding centers. It holds full member status in the European Youth Forum (YFJ), which operates within the Council of Europe and European Union areas and works closely with these bodies. Girl Guides
Girl Guides (known as Girl Scouts in the United States and some other countries) is a worldwide movement, originally and largely still designed for girls and women only. The movement began in 1909 when girls requested to join the then-grassroots Boy Scout Movement. The movement developed in diverse ways in a variety of places around the world. In some places, girls joined or attempted to join preexisting Scouting organizations. In other places, all girl groups were started independently; some would later open up to boys, while others merged with boys' organizations. In other cases, mixed-gender groups were formed, some of which sometimes later disbanded. Guide Motto
The Scout Motto of the Scout movement is, in English, "Be Prepared", with most international branches of the group using a close translation of that phrase. These mottoes have been used by millions of Scouts around the world since 1907. Most of the member organizations of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) share the same mottoes. A trefoil () is a graphic form composed of the outline of three overlapping rings, used in architecture and Christian symbolism, among other areas. The term is also applied to other symbols with a threefold shape. A similar shape with four rings is called a quatrefoil. Bauhinia Blakeana
''Bauhinia'' () is a large genus of flowering plants in the subfamily Cercidoideae and tribe Bauhinieae, in the large flowering plant family Fabaceae, with a pantropical distribution. The genus was named after the Bauhin brothers Gaspard and Johann, Swiss- French botanists. Many species are widely planted in the tropics as orchid trees, particularly in India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Nepal and southeastern China. Other common names include mountain ebony and ''kachnar''. Jane Akers-Jones
Lady Jane Akers-Jones, MBE (8 March 1929 – 6 October 2002) was an influential member of the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association (HKGGA) and its longest serving Chief Commissioner. Family and personal life Jane Akers-Jones, née Spickernell, was born in Paddington, London on 8 March 1929. She was the eldest child of Sir Frank Todd Spickernell KBE CB CVO DSO RN (1885–1956) and Lady Amice Ivy Delves Spickernell (née Broughton) (1901–1974). She met Sir David Akers-Jones (1927–2019) whilst he was studying at Brasenose College, Oxford and she was an actress appearing with the Liverpool Playhouse. They married on 8 September 1951. They adopted two children, Simon Akers-Jones (d. 1981) and Bryony Akers-Jones. The family attended the Anglican Christ Church in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong. Scout Association Of Hong Kong
The Scout Association of Hong Kong is the largest scouting organisation in Hong Kong. Scout training was first introduced in Hong Kong in 1909 and 1910 by the Protestant based Boys' Brigade, Chums Scout Patrols and British Boy Scouts. The Catholic St. Joseph's College, formed its Boy Scout Troop in 1913, and registered with the Boy Scouts Association of the United Kingdom in 1914. The Boy Scouts Association formed its Hong Kong Local Association in July 1915 which became its Hong Kong Branch. After changes to the name of the United Kingdom organisation in 1967, the branch name was changed to The Scout Association Hong Kong Branch. Olympia Badge
The Olympia Badge is a Girl Guide and Girl Scout emblem, designed as a reminder of the original purpose of the Olympic Games. The first Olympia Badge was designed by Soma Hellinikou Odigismou, the Greek Guiding Association, to mark the return of the Olympic Games to Athens in 2004. The second Olympia Badge was launched 23 January 2008 by the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, designed to celebrate the 2008 Summer Olympics which were held in Beijing in August 2008. The aim of the badge was to promote the Guiding message in many ways, including sport.
