Holzminden–Scherfede Railway
The Holzminden–Scherfede railway was a 49 km long main line from Holzminden to Scherfede (now part of Warburg) in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia that connected the Altenbeken–Kreiensen railway with the Upper Ruhr Valley Railway. It ran continuously from 1876 to 1984. The most important town on the former line was Beverungen. Route The line ran from the northeast to the southwest through the Weser Uplands. It crossed the Weser at Fürstenberg, Lower Saxony, Fürstenberg. In Wehrden it connected with the Solling Railway (but only towards Northeim), which it crossed just after Wehrden station. The line ran through Beverungen, from where it climbed up the valley of the Bever (Weser), Bever and through the Warburger Börde (the rolling country around Warburg). Kreiensen is a village and a former municipality in the district of Northeim, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Since 1 January 2013, it is part of the town Einbeck. Geography Kreiensen is situated on the river Leine, approx. north of Northeim, and south of Hildesheim. It lies in southern Niedersachsen in the foothills of the Harz and Solling Mountains. The Duchy of Brunswick State Railway (''Herzoglich Braunschweigische Staatseisenbahn'') was the first state railway in Germany. The first section of its Brunswick–Bad Harzburg railway line between Brunswick and Wolfenbüttel opened on 1 December 1838. Bever (Weser)
Bever is a river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It flows into the Weser in Beverungen. History On December 1, 2006, the water became contaminated after a slurry accident. A fist-sized crack in the fermenter of the Biogas Plant in Borgentreich-Natzungen brought large quantities of fermentation substrate into the Eselsbach and thus into the Bever, causing a massive fish die out. Northeim
Northeim (; nds, Nuurten) is a town in Lower Saxony, Germany, seat of the district of Northeim, with, in 2011, a population of 29,000. It lies on the German Half-Timbered House Road. History Northeim is first mentioned in 800 in a document recording a property transfer by a Frankish nobleman to the Abbey of Fulda.
