Holy Island, Northumberland
Lindisfarne, also called Holy Island, is a tidal island off the northeast coast of England, which constitutes the civil parishes in England, civil parish of Holy Island in Northumberland. Holy Island has a recorded history from the 6th century AD; it was an important centre of Celtic Christianity under Saints Aidan of Lindisfarne, Aidan, Cuthbert, Eadfrith of Lindisfarne, Eadfrith, and Eadberht of Lindisfarne. After the Viking expansion, Viking invasions and the Norman conquest of England, a priory was re-established. A small castle was built on the island in 1550. Northumberland
Northumberland () is a county in Northern England, one of two counties in England which border with Scotland. Notable landmarks in the county include Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh Castle, Hadrian's Wall and Hexham Abbey. It is bordered by land on three sides; by the Scottish Borders region to the north, County Durham and Tyne and Wear to the south, and Cumbria to the west.
