Holger Waldenberger
Holger Waldenberger (born 7 December 1967) is a German professional quiz player. He won the individual title in the European Quizzing Championships in 2012. Waldenberger was born at Bielefeld. He has been the best German quizzer at the World Quizzing Championship four times between 2009 and 2012. In 2012 he placed 13th worldwide, in 2011 he was 22nd and 2010 he was 24th. In 2011 he became the first German to win an IQA medal when his club ''Europalia'', made up of members from four countries, won Silver in Bruges. In July 2012 he got his first television-appearance as " Chaser" (German: Jäger) in the NDR-Show '' Gefragt – Gejagt'' for all the first six episodes of the German remake of the British quiz show ''The Chase'', then he re-appeared in the ARD version of the show from May 2015 to April 2017. European Quizzing Championships
The European Quizzing Championships (EQC) are an annual multi-disciplinary quiz event, in which representatives from various countries compete as individuals, in pairs, and/or in teams (club or national). History As most of the top players in the world are Europeans, the EQC are almost on a par with the WQC. The playing environment differs drastically, though, as the EQC is played in one place only, in English only (WQC is played in the language of each country) and has several competitions with more than one player (pairs, national teams - for four players, and clubs - also four players). In 2016 the EQC was part of the 2016 Quiz Olympiad.: In 2021 it was part of the 2021 Quiz Olympiad. ''Dragon Quest Monsters'' is a spin-off series of the ''Dragon Quest'' games. Published by Square Enix (formerly Enix), it sets the player in a medieval/fantasy world filled with magic, monsters and knights. Unlike the original ''Dragon Quest'' games, the player's character does not do any of the fighting in battles; instead the player has to rely on capturing, breeding and raising monsters to do the fighting for them. The concept originated from ''Dragon Quest V'' (1992). The character and monster designs are by ''Dragon Ball'' creator, Akira Toriyama. The series spans several handheld gaming systems, and each game has received positive reviews from critics. A quiz is a form of game or mind sport in which players attempt to answer questions correctly on one or several specific topics. Bielefeld () is a city in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe Region in the north-east of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. World Quizzing Championship
The World Quizzing Championships is an individual quiz contest organised by the International Quizzing Association (the umbrella organisation of various quizzing organisations from more than 25 countries around the world). The competition has been staged annually since (since 2004 in more than one country simultaneously) with an increasing number of contestants from an increasing number of nations. Since 2006, the competition has been staged on the first Saturday of every June. As of 2022, Pat Gibson and Jesse Honey, both from England, hold the title for the highest-scoring quizzers with 186 out of 240 total points. The Chase (UK Game Show)
''The Chase'' is a British television quiz show broadcast on ITV1 and hosted by Bradley Walsh. Contestants play against a professional quizzer, known as the "chaser", who attempts to prevent them from winning a cash prize. The six chasers are Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan, and Darragh Ennis. Labbett and Wallace have both been chasers since series 1, while Hegerty joined in series 2, Sinha in series 4, Ryan in series 9 and Ennis in series 13. With rare exceptions for special episodes, only one chaser participates in any given episode. A team of four contestants individually attempt to amass as much money as possible, which is later added to a prize fund if the contestant survives their chase. ''Gefragt – Gejagt'' (''Asked—Chased'') is a quiz show that has been broadcast on German television since 2012 (on NDR Fernsehen from 2012 to 2015 and on Das Erste from 2015 onward). It is the German adaptation of ITV's show '' The Chase''. History The editorial team of NDR discovered the original quiz program from 2009 and adapted it together with the set, the name of the program, the logo and the rules of the game. Dorjana Širola
Dorjana Širola (born 9 June 1972) is a Croatian quizzer, linguist, anglicist and software tester. She has been the highest placed woman at the World Quizzing Championship from 2005 to 2011, and again from 2013 to 2018 (losing out in 2012 to Anne Hegerty), with seven overall top 20 finishes during this period. She was also the winner of the BBC University Challenge (UC) quiz in 2002 as a member of the University of Oxford, Somerville College team and the winner of the University Challenge: The Professionals (UCP) quiz in 2006 as a member of the Bodleian Library team.
