History Of Baseball In Australia
In Australia, baseball is a game that is played in all states and territories of the country. History Baseball was believed to have been brought to Australia with American gold miners in the Victorian gold rush of the 1850s, where miners would play baseball on the gold fields on their rest days. The first reports of organised teams and results appeared in Ballarat, Victoria in . Harris 2009, p.14 In 1867, Victorian cricketers William Gaggin and Louis Goldsmith tried to set up a game of baseball at Yarra Park but were disrupted by fans arriving for a local Australian football match. The first competitive series was played between the Surry Baseball Club and members of the New South Wales Cricket Association over June/July 1878. However, it is argued competitive organised one-off matches from as early as 1875 were played before this time. The first interstate baseball games were played in 1890 when Victoria played South Australia at the East Melbourne Cricket Ground. The v ...

Australian Baseball Federation
Baseball Australia, formerly the Australian Baseball Federation is the national governing body of Baseball in Australia and owns the Australian Baseball League. Baseball is played in all the mainland states and territories, but it struggles for popularity due to the popularity of many other sports, including the comparable sport of cricket, in which Australia has always been one of the leading nations. School-aged children are generally guided toward a future in cricket, rather than baseball, especially in the private schooling system. Baseball Australia were previously 25% stakeholders along with Major League Baseball of the ABL when it began play in November 2010. Following the 2015–16 Australian Baseball League season, MLB decided to relinquish its 75% share in the League, with Baseball Australia becoming the sole owner. Since Australia's silver medal performance at the 2004 Athens Olympics the participation rate in most of the eastern states has remained stable, howeve ...

Baseball Glove
A baseball glove or mitt is a large glove (traditionally made of leather, today other options do exist) worn by baseball players of the defending team, which assists players in catching and fielding balls hit by a batter or thrown by a teammate. By convention, the glove is described by the handedness of the intended wearer, rather than the hand on which the glove is worn: a glove that fits on the left hand—used by a right-handed thrower—is called a ''right-handed'' (RH) or "right-hand throw" (RHT) glove. Conversely, a left-handed glove (LH or LHT) is worn on the right hand, allowing the player to throw the ball with the left hand. History Early baseball was a game played without gloves. During the slow transition to gloves, a player who continued to play without one was called a ''barehanded catcher;'' this did not refer to the position of catcher, but rather to the practice of catching with bare hands. The earliest glove was not webbed and not particularly well suited fo ...
