History Of The West Indian Cricket Team
The history of the West Indian cricket team begins in the 1880s when the first combined West Indian team was formed and toured Canada and the United States. In the 1890s, the first representative sides were selected to play visiting English sides. Administered by the West Indies Cricket Board ("WICB"), and known colloquially as ''The Windies'', the West Indies cricket team represents a sporting confederation of English-speaking Caribbean countries. The WICB joined the sport's international ruling body, the Imperial Cricket Conference, in 1926, and played their first official international match, which in cricket is called a Test, in 1928. Although blessed with some great players in their early days as a Test nation, their successes remained sporadic until the 1960s, by which time the side had changed from a white-dominated to a black-dominated side. The England cricket team represents England and Wales in international cricket. Since 1997, it has been governed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), having been previously governed by Marylebone Cricket Club (the MCC) since 1903. Robert Slade Lucas
Robert Slade Lucas (17 July 1867, in Teddington, Middlesex – 5 January 1942, in Franklands Village, Haywards Heath, Sussex) was an English cricketer who played for Middlesex. He was a right-handed batsman and occasional right-arm medium paced bowler. He captained a team to the West Indies in 1894–95. Scores and Biographies Volume XV (1925) records that 'LUCAS, Robert Slade, whose first match at Lord's was on 5 May 1887, for Eighteen Colts of Middlesex v M.C.C., was a batsman above the average, who could hit freely and well, a medium-paced bowler, and a fieldsman who took no place in particular. His name will be found in the Middlesex Eleven from 1891 to 1900, his highest score for the county being 185 v Sussex at Hove in 1895, when he and Mr. T.C. Middlesex County Cricket Club
Middlesex County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Middlesex which has effectively been subsumed within the ceremonial county of Greater London. The club was founded in 1864 but teams representing the county have played top-class cricket since the early 18th century and the club has always held first-class status. Carib Beer Cup
The Regional Four Day Competition, formerly known as Shell Shield and Carib Beer Cup, is the first-class cricket competition in the West Indies. It is administered by the Cricket West Indies. In the 2013-2014 season the winner of the tournament was awarded the WICB President's Trophy while the winners of the knockout competition were awarded the George Headley/Everton Weekes trophy. In a few previous seasons the winners of the tournament were awarded the Headley/Weekes trophy. From the 2017–18, the Competition had been sponsored by Digicel and was known as the Digicel Four Day Championship. In 2019-20, the competition has been known as the West Indies Championship. Stanford 20/20
The Stanford 20/20 was a short-lived cricket tournament in the Caribbean island of Antigua. It was held first in July and August 2006 in the West Indies at the Stanford Cricket Ground, St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda, and then again in the same place in 2008. It was a variety of the popular Twenty20 format, which had been first introduced in English cricket in 2003. The tournament was separate to the Stanford Super Series, which was held in late 2008. The tournament was privately devised and funded by wealthy American businessman Allen Stanford, who held Antiguan dual nationality. First Class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. Montserrat ( ) is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. It is part of the Leeward Islands, the northern portion of the Lesser Antilles chain of the West Indies.
