Jocelyn, Ontario
Jocelyn is a township in the Canadian province of Ontario, located on St. Joseph Island in the Algoma District. The current reeve of the township is Mark Henderson. Jocelyn is home to Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site. The primary community in the township is Kentvale, which is located around Kentvale Merchants Limited, the largest general store on St. Joseph Island. Kentvale Merchants Limited is actually located in the Township of St. Joseph and previously operated under the name Kentvale General Merchants. It was opened in 1888 by Emily M. Kent and Frederick B. Kent. A community outdoor hockey rink on the property provided recreation for this farming community for many years. It was operated by the Kent family and volunteers from the community. The original operation consisted of a grist and saw mill operated by Frederick and a store that Emily ran. Drummond Township is a civil township of Chippewa County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,058 at the 2010 census. The township consists of Drummond Island, the seventh-largest lake island in the world. North Channel (Ontario)
The North Channel is the body of water along the north shore of Lake Huron, in the Canadian province of Ontario. It stretches approximately 160 nautical miles (300 km) and is bordered on the east by Georgian Bay, on the west by the St. Marys River, to the north by the eastern Algoma District and part of the Sudbury District, and to the south by the islands of Manitoulin, Cockburn, Drummond and St. Joseph. At its widest point it is over 30 km (20 miles) wide. In addition to Georgian Bay, the North Channel is connected to the main body of Lake Huron by the False Detour Channel and the Mississagi Strait, which separate the above-noted islands. Bruce Mines
Bruce Mines is a town in the Canadian province of Ontario, located on the north shore of Lake Huron in the Algoma District along Highway 17. The town of Bruce Mines had a population of 582 residents in 2016. The current mayor of Bruce Mines is Lory Patteri. History Cornish emigrants began to arrive in the area in 1842. Copper deposits at Bruce Mines came to the attention of non-native settlers in 1846, and mining began that year. The area was named after James Bruce, the Earl of Elgin Governor General of Canada appointed in 1846. The Bruce Mines comprised Bruce, Wellington and Copper Bay mines. In 1876 the mines were closed due to floods, cave-ins, and declining profits, leading to a shift to agricultural development in the area. Johnson is a township in the Canadian province of Ontario, located within the Algoma District. The township had a population of 751 in the Canada 2016 Census, up from 750 in the 2011 census. Communities Desbarats, the main community in the township, is located on Highway 17, east of Sault Ste. Marie. Located in Desbarats is Central Algoma Secondary School, a high school of 250+ students which serves a catchment area extending from Echo Bay to Thessalon. In 2013 a grade 7 and 8 program was put into place in CASS. West of Desbarats on Highway 17 is Ripple Rock, a unique rock cut that was uncovered with the blasting of the rock cuts through northern Ontario for the creation of the Trans-Canada Highway.
