Hilltop District, more commonly known simply as Hilltop, is a neighborhood located in the northeastern area of Richmond, California.http://www.ci.richmond.ca.us/CurrentEvents.asp?EID=3892 Overview It forms the bulk of the retail commercial sector which is anchored by The Shops at Hilltop. This shopping center, like many around the country, killed downtown after opening in the 1970s. The area has become a booming bedroom community since a high increase in new housing being built in the desirable neighborhood. This area is of interest due to its proximity to job centers in Oakland and San Francisco, its relative adjacency compared to other suburbs, and affordability. Many single family attached and detached homes as well as condos and apartment developments have been added, along with many new shops and strip malls since the late 1990s. It runs into San Pablo Bay. It is sometimes called Hilltop Creek. The creek is supported by two springs, two separate legs which join into Garrity Creek in El Sobrante, California. The basin feeding this watershed was, for hundreds of years, a sacred fishing and hunting site for the Huchiun Band of the Native Ohlone at Garrity Creek & Along San Pablo Bay. Garrity Creek was a highly prized and sacred site because it provided food; acorns from tanbark, valley, coast and live oak trees, as well as buckeye trees. The Huchiun also harvested seeds, berries, greens, nuts and roots in the basin and would travel along Garrity Creek to fish for steelhead, salmon and sturgeon that swam up Garrity Creek to spawn. Hilltop Green, Richmond, California
Hilltop Green or "The Green"is a neighborhood in Richmond, California bordering the city of Pinole, the census-designated place of El Sobrante, the neighborhood of Hilltop, and Hilltop Mall. History Hilltop Green has its own neighborhood council and community center in its centrally located self-titled park. The area has one entrance and exit to Hilltop Drive and AC Transit commuter bus service to San Francisco. Local bus service was eliminated in 2007. The green was originally one of the first racially integrated suburban developments created in the Bay Area and the nation and it maintains this diverse character to present times. The neighborhood is connected to Pinole Vista Shopping Center by steps and to the Richmond Parkway Transit Center by an overcrossing beyond the aforementioned steps. Hilltop Horizon, formerly known as Hilltop Mall, East Bay Science and Technology Center and The Shops At Hilltop, was a regional shopping center in the Hilltop neighborhood of Richmond, California. Hilltop is managed and co-owned by Prologis, Inc. The anchor store is Walmart. There are 3 vacant anchor stores that were once Macy's, JCPenney and Sears. History Hilltop Mall opened in September 1976, built on land previously occupied by an oil storage tank farm owned by the Chevron Corporation. The mall was developed by A. San Pablo Bay is a tidal estuary that forms the northern extension of San Francisco Bay in the East Bay and North Bay regions of the San Francisco Bay Area in northern California.
