Anthony Highmore (1719–1799) was an English draughtsman. Life He was the only son of Joseph Highmore, known for five views of Hampton Court, engraved by John Tinney. Anthony Highmore (legal Writer)
Anthony Highmore (1758–1829) was an English legal writer, known also for works on London charities and the Honourable Artillery Company. Life The son of Anthony Highmore, he was born in London in 1768. In 1766 he was sent to school under Charles Burney at Greenwich. He went into practice as a solicitor in 1783. Highmore was an abolitionist and friend of Granville Sharp. He also promoted Charles James Fox's act on the law of libel. During the Napoleonic Wars alarm created by threatened invasion, Highmore became a member of the Honourable Artillery Company. The secretary to the London Lying-in Hospital, he advocated for the public dispensary movement as more cost-effective than hospitals. Highmore died at Dulwich 19 July 1829. Matthew Highmore (born February 27, 1996) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player, currently playing with the Belleville Senators in the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract to the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League (NHL). Nathaniel Highmore (1613–1685) was a British surgeon. Education He was educated at Sherborne and Queen's College, Oxford and Trinity College, Oxford. Professional life Remembered for his anatomical studies, he published a well written treatise on human anatomy in 1651 noteworthy for its accurate and well written account of blood circulation. He is especially known for his description of the maxillary sinus, which used to be more popularly referred to as the antrum of Highmore. He is also known for describing the scrotal septum that divides the scrotum into the two sections that each house a single testicle. Nathaniel Highmore (barrister)
Sir Nathaniel Joseph Highmore (13 November 1844 – 16 April 1924) was a senior British civil servant and government barrister. Highmore was born in Sherborne, Dorset, the son of William Highmore MP, and was educated at Sherborne School. He joined the Inland Revenue at the age of twenty, was called to the Bar, and became Assistant Solicitor to the Inland Revenue in 1890. In 1903 he became Solicitor to HM Customs and in 1909 Solicitor to HM Excise. He retired in 1913. On the outbreak of the First World War in 1914, Highmore returned to government service as the representative of the Board of Customs and Excise on the Committee on Trading with the Enemy. From 1915 to its abolition in March 1919 he was Secretary and Assistant Director of the War Trade Department. Susanna Highmore
Susanna Highmore (née Hiller) (1690 – 18 November 1750) was an English poet with a relatively small literary output. She was the wife of Joseph Highmore, whom she married on 28 May 1716. She was listed as "an heiress", while Joseph Highmore was a portrait painter in high demand, and the couple lived in London and associated with Isaac Watts, William Duncombe, and Samuel Richardson. They had two children, Anthony Highmore (later a painter) and Susanna (also known as a poet). Highmore educated her children according to the precepts of John Locke and kept them at home. Her friend Richardson said she was an indulgent but conscientious mother. Her first publication came with an obituary for Isaac Watts, published anonymously, in 1748. In 1749, she wrote ''A Calvinistical Reflection'' for ''The Gentleman's Magazine.'' It was a satire and critique of Calvinism in highly polished verse. Thomas Highmore (22 June 1660 – 8 March 1720) was an English painter of the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
