Anthony Highmore
Anthony Highmore (1719–1799) was an English draughtsman. Life He was the only son of Joseph Highmore, known for five views of Hampton Court, engraved by John Tinney. He was deaf, and resided mostly at Canterbury, where he studied theology. He died on 3 October 1799, in his eighty-first year. Family Highmore married early in life Anna Maria, daughter of the Rev. Hampton Court
Hampton Court Palace is a Grade I listed royal palace in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, southwest and upstream of central London on the River Thames. The building of the palace began in 1514 for Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, the chief minister of Henry VIII. In 1529, as Wolsey fell from favour, the cardinal gave the palace to the king to check his disgrace. The palace went on to become one of Henry's most favoured residences; soon after acquiring the property, he arranged for it to be enlarged so that it might more easily accommodate his sizeable retinue of courtiers. Brampton is a suburb in the west of Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Originally a village known as New Brampton and separate from the town, it became absorbed into it over time due to urban sprawl. It is centred on Chatsworth Road, the main arterial road (A619) that connects the town with the Peak District and Manchester. History The suburb has a historical association with the civil parish of Brampton in North East Derbyshire district, which is still outside the town. Anthony Highmore (legal Writer)
Anthony Highmore (1758–1829) was an English legal writer, known also for works on London charities and the Honourable Artillery Company. Life The son of Anthony Highmore, he was born in London in 1768. In 1766 he was sent to school under Charles Burney at Greenwich. He went into practice as a solicitor in 1783. Highmore was an abolitionist and friend of Granville Sharp. He also promoted Charles James Fox's act on the law of libel. During the Napoleonic Wars alarm created by threatened invasion, Highmore became a member of the Honourable Artillery Company. The secretary to the London Lying-in Hospital, he advocated for the public dispensary movement as more cost-effective than hospitals. Highmore died at Dulwich 19 July 1829.
