Herbert Amey
Herbert Raudenbusch Amey, Jr. (February 22, 1913 – November 20, 1943) was a United States Marine Corps lieutenant colonel and Silver Star Medal recipient who served in World War II. Early life and military career Amey was born in Ambler, Pennsylvania. He attended Ambler High School, where he was student council president during his senior year, as well as president of his sophomore and junior classes. Thereafter, Amey attended the Pennsylvania Military College, where he was the captain of the baseball team. Upon graduating, he became an officer in the United States Marine Corps and was initially assigned to the Marine Barracks at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Amey's first overseas assignment was with the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines in Shanghai, China in 1937, followed by duty at the Marine Detachment at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. Ambler, Pennsylvania
Ambler is a borough in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. It is located approximately 16 miles (26 km) north of the Center City Philadelphia. History Lenape The historical territory of the Lenni Lenape was in the Delaware River Valley, in an area reaching from Cape Henlopen, Delaware, northward towards the lower Hudson Valley in southern New York. The area towards the south, including what is now Philadelphia and nearby Ambler, was the home of a linguistic group called the Unami. According to tradition, the Lenape established a peace treaty with Quaker William Penn in the 1680s. Harmer family William and George Harmer are listed among the Quakers who emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1682. In 1716, William and George Harmer purchased a 408-acre tract from William Penn, an area including most of what now is Ambler Borough. 1st Provisional Marine Brigade
The 1st Provisional Marine Brigade was a Marine (military), Marine infantry brigade of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) that existed periodically from 1912 to 1950. It was an ad hoc unit formed for specific operations and not considered a "permanent" USMC unit. The brigade saw five brief activations for service over a 40-year span. First created in 1912 for duty in Cuba following the Negro Rebellion, the brigade was not activated again until 1941 when it was hastily constructed from the 6th Marine Regiment (United States), 6th Marine Regiment to garrison Iceland after the Invasion of Iceland, occupation of that country by British troops during World War II. 6th Marines
The 6th Marine Regiment (also referred to as "6th Marines") is an infantry regiment of the United States Marine Corps based at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. The regiment falls under the command of the 2nd Marine Division of the II Marine Expeditionary Force. Its combat history dates back to World War I when they were part of the American Expeditionary Force. The Marine Barracks is an historic, American barracks that is located at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
