Henry Clay Yawn
Henry Clay Yawn (July 5, 1859 - August 3, 1936) was a Democratic member of the Mississippi Senate from 1916 to 1920 and from 1928 to 1932. Early life Henry Clay Yawn was born on July 5, 1859, in Columbia, Alabama. He was the son of Greenbury Yawn and Melinda (Yawn) Yawn. He was the only son of five children. Yawn attended the rural schools of Covington County. He attended Mount Carmel and Columbia High Schools. The Mississippi Senate is the upper house of the Mississippi Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Mississippi. Covington County, Mississippi
Covington County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 19,568. Its county seat is Collins. The county is named for U.S. Army officer and Congressman Leonard Covington. History Covington County was established on January 5, 1819, less than two years after Mississippi earned statehood into the Union. The county was one of the first counties established out of the vast non-agricultural lands in the more eastern part of the state. Covington was originally cut out of Lawrence and Wayne Counties, and encompassed what is now Jefferson Davis, Covington, and Jones Counties. In 1823, part of Covington County became Bainbridge County, most likely named after William Bainbridge, who became an American naval hero during the War of 1812. Columbia is a U.S. city in and the county seat of Marion County, Mississippi, which was formed six years before Mississippi was admitted to statehood. Columbia was named for Columbia, South Carolina, from which many of the early settlers had migrated. The population was 6,582 as of the 2010 census.
