Henk Barnard
Henk Barnard (8 August 1922, Rotterdam – 16 April 2003, Laren) was a Dutch writer of children's literature, journalist and television director. Career Between 1960 and 1962 Barnard worked as a television director for the television series ''Pipo de Clown, Pipo en het zingende zwaard'' and ''Pipo de Clown, Pipo in Kaliefland''. Barnard also worked on the series ''De proemel'' (1962) and ''Ja zuster, nee zuster'' between 1966 and 1968. In 1972, Barnard published the children's book ''De Marokkaan en de kat van tante Da'' (1972) for which he received the Gouden Griffel award a year later. Barnard was also awarded the Gouden Griffel for his book ''Kon Hesi Baka / Kom gauw terug''. For his book ''Laatste nacht in Jeque'' Barnard received the Nienke van Hichtum-prijs in 1979. Gouden Griffel
The Gouden Griffel (Golden Stylus) is an award given to authors of children's or teenagers' literature in the Netherlands. History Since 1971, it is awarded each year during the Dutch Children's Books Week, by the Stichting Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlandse Boek (Dutch Book Promotion Society) for the best children's books written in the past year. Between 1954 and 1970, one book per year was declared the "children's book of the year". Since then, ''griffels'' are awarded in several categories. Only novels written in Dutch are eligible for the ''gouden griffel''. However, the runner-up awards (Silver ''griffels'') can also be given to translated works. Aside from these, the ''Gouden Penseel'' (golden paintbrush) is awarded to the best illustrated children's books (with silver ''penseel'' as a runner-up), and since 1997 the Gouden Zoen (golden kiss, with silver as a runner-up) is awarded to the best books for teenagers. The Nienke van Hichtum-prijs (Dutch for Nienke van Hichtum Prize) is a biennial Dutch literary award for children's literature awarded by the Jan Campert-Stichting. The Theo Thijssen-prijsSometimes spelled ''Theo Thijssenprijs''. (Dutch for Theo Thijssen Prize) is a Dutch literary award awarded once every three years to a Dutch author of children's literature or young adult fiction. The award is not given for a particular work but for the entire oeuvre. The award is named after Dutch writer, teacher and socialist politician Theo Thijssen. The Theo Thijssen-prijs is a continuation of the literary award ''Staatsprijs voor kinder- en jeugdliteratuur'' (Dutch for ''State prize for children's and youth literature'') which was first awarded in 1964. Pipo De Clown
Pipo de Clown is a character created by writer and artist Wim Meuldijk, which became famous as the lead character of a popular early Dutch television series also written by Meuldijk, and which was subsequently popularized in movies and on records. The best-known of Pipo-actors was Amsterdam actor , who played the part in the television series from 1958 to 1968 and from 1974 to 1980. The regular Pipo cast often performed in theaters and for company occasions. Pipo returned to the mainstream in the 2003 movie ''Pipo en de p-p-Parelridder'', and in the 2009-2010 theater season with the musical ''Pipo en de Gestolen Stem''. The Digital Library for Dutch Literature (Dutch: Digitale Bibliotheek voor de Nederlandse Letteren or DBNL) is a website (showing the abbreviation as dbnl) about Dutch language and Dutch literature. It contains thousands of literary texts, secondary literature and additional information, like biographies, portrayals etcetera, and hyperlinks. The DBNL is an initiative by the DBNL foundation that was founded in 1999 by the Society of Dutch Literature (Dutch: Maatschappij der Nederlandse Letterkunde). Building of the DNBL was made possible by donations, among others, from the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research (Dutch: Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek or NWO) and the Nederlandse Taalunie. From 2008 to 2012, the editor was René van Stipriaan. The work is done by eight people in Leiden (as of 2013: The Hague), 20 students, and 50 people in the Philippines who scan and type the texts. Boekenweek
In the Netherlands, the Boekenweek (; English: Book Week) is an annual "week" of ten days dedicated to Dutch literature. It has been held in March annually since 1932. Each Boekenweek has a theme. The beginning of the Boekenweek is marked by the ''Boekenbal'' (''book ball''), a gathering that is attended by writers and publishers. Events are held across the country during the Boekenweek, such as book signing sessions, literary festivals and debates. Publications Each year a well-known writer, usually Dutch or Flemish, is asked to write a book, usually a novella, called the ''Boekenweekgeschenk'' (''book week gift''), which is to be given away during the festival. Book shops give a copy of the Boekenweekgeschenk when a customer buys a book in the Dutch language; libraries also give copies of these books when a new person becomes a member. Fiel van der Veen (born 18 February 1945, Nijmegen) is a Dutch illustrator. Career Van der Veen has illustrated books by various Dutch authors, including Paul Biegel, Jan Terlouw and Willem Wilmink. In 1974, Van der Veen illustrated the book ''2 is te veel'' by Henk Barnard, the Kinderboekenweekgeschenk on the occasion of the Boekenweek. Van der Veen also illustrated Paul Biegel's book ''Het eiland daarginds'' which was the Kinderboekenweekgeschenk in 1989. In 1988, van der Veen won the Zilveren Penseel for his illustrations in Paul Biegel's book ''De rode prinses''. Biegel's book ''Laatste verhalen van de eeuw'', also illustrated by van der Veen, won the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs in 2000.
