Hendrika Van Gelder (1870–1943) was a Dutch painter known for portraits and still life paintings. Biography van Gelder was born on 7 May 1870 in Amsterdam. She studied with Henriëtte Asscher, Eduard Frankfort, and . She was a member of the ', ''De Independents'', and ''Arti et Amicitiae. Henriëtte Asscher (July 18, 1858 – April 9, 1933) was a Dutch painter. Biography Asscher was born on 18 July 1858 in Amsterdam. Eduard Frankfort
Eduard Salomon Frankfort (21 June 1864, in Meppel – 19 August 1920, in Laren) was a Dutch Jewish painter during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Early life and education Frankfort was born to Salomon Simon Frankfort and Dine Bendien-Frankfort. He was the youngest of eight children. His father was a devoutly religious merchant, and Eduard's upbringing reflected his father's strict religious beliefs. When he was eleven years old, his family moved to Amsterdam, where Salomon Simon Frankfort hoped Eduard would eventually take a municipal job. Eduard, however, showed an early interest in painting. From ages eleven to seventeen, he underwent formal training at Atelier Bing to become a visual artist. Arti Et Amicitiae
Arti et Amicitiae (lat .: For Art and Friendship) is a Dutch artist's society founded in 1839, and located on the Rokin in Amsterdam. The Society (also called Arti for short) has played a key role in the Netherlands art scene and in particular in the Amsterdam art schools. It was and is to this day a hub for artists and art lovers in the city of Amsterdam. It is a private institution which supports artists, maintains social networks and offers a pension fund. Zomerdijkstraat
The Zomerdijkstraat is a small street in the Amsterdam neighborhood Rivierenbuurt, consisting of apartment buildings and a hallmark building, the studio complex at the Zomerdijkstraat. A classified monument, the building was designed by the functionalist architects Piet Zanstra, J.H.L. Giesen en K.L. Sijmons. The building is a pivotal work in Dutch architecture of the early thirties. The architects were members of "Groep 32", strongly inspired by the work of Le Corbusier. They combined a functional architecture with artistic elements, of which the studio apartment block is a prime example. Onze Kunst van Heden (Contemporary Artists/Our Art of Today) was an exhibition held in the winter of 1939 through 1940 at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Due to the threat of invasion in the years leading up to World War II, the Netherlands' government stored many items from the Rijksmuseum's permanent collection. The resulting empty gallery space was utilized by contemporary Dutch artists to exhibit and sell their art. It was organized by the director of the Rijksmuseum . Sobibor Extermination Camp
Sobibor (, Polish: ) was an extermination camp built and operated by Nazi Germany as part of Operation Reinhard. It was located in the forest near the village of Żłobek Duży in the General Government region of German-occupied Poland. As an extermination camp rather than a concentration camp, Sobibor existed for the sole purpose of murdering Jews. The vast majority of prisoners were gassed within hours of arrival. Those not killed immediately were forced to assist in the operation of the camp, and few survived more than a few months. In total, some 170,000 to 250,000 people were murdered at Sobibor, making it the fourth-deadliest Nazi camp after Auschwitz, Treblinka, and Belzec.
