Hazleton, British Columbia
Hazelton is a village located at the junction of the Bulkley and Skeena Rivers in northern British Columbia, Canada. It was founded in 1866 and in 2011 had a population of 305. The nearby larger community of New Hazelton is the northernmost point of the Yellowhead Highway, a major interprovincial highway which runs from Prince Rupert, British Columbia, to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. The Hazelton area comprises two municipalities (the Village of Hazelton and District of New Hazelton), three unincorporated settlements ( South Hazelton, Two Mile and the Kispiox Valley), four First Nations’ villages: three of which are of the Gitxsan people (Gitanmaax, Glen Vowell and Kispiox) and A Wetʼsuwetʼen people, the Hagwilget. Hazleton Regional Airport is a public airport two miles northwest of Hazleton, in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The airport had Air Pennsylvania flights to Philadelphia; Allegheny Airlines stopped there from 1957 until Allegheny Commuter took over in 1968. Facilities The airport covers at an elevation of 1,603 feet (489 m). Its single runway, 10/28, is 4,898 by 100 feet (1,493 x 30 m) asphalt. In the year ending October 21, 2008 the airport had 23,942 aircraft operations, average 65 per day: 99% general aviation and 1% military. 42 aircraft were then based at the airport: 86% single-engine, 2% multi-engine, 5% jet and 7% helicopter. The Hazleton Mountaineers were one of the original six franchises in the Eastern Professional Basketball League. The Mountaineers were the league's first team to have an integrated roster, as two former members of the New York Rens, Bill Brown and Zack Clayton, joined John Isaacs on the Mountaineers' roster. Hazleton Hawks
The Hazleton Hawks were a professional basketball franchise in the Eastern Professional Basketball League. The Hawks, based in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, joined the league in 1955, playing as the "Hazleton Professionals"; they were named the "Hawks" in their second season in the league. In the team's first season, the franchise went through several different lineups and two coaching changes, but later made the playoffs by signing several players who had been part of the college point-shaving scandals, including Sherman White of Long Island University, Bob McDonald of Toledo University, and Ed Warner of CCNY. With that lineup, the team was able to reach the Eastern League finals in its first season - only to lose to the Wilkes-Barre Barons in a best-of-three series.
