Hawi (film)
''Hawi'' () is a 2010 Egyptian film directed by Ibrahim El Batout, starred by Mohamed El Sayed, Sherif El Dessouki and Mirette El Hariri. Shot in Alexandria using non-professional actors and a volunteer crew, the film is inspired by the alternative cinema of Jean-Luc Godard, Dziga Vertov and Abbas Kiarostami. Synopsis Youssef, Ibrahim and Fady spent 20 years in the same prison. Youssef has just been released in order to find several confidential documents. After 20 years, Ibrahim wants to see his daughter again. She is rehearsing with the third man, Fady, the musician. Apart from these three men, in The Juggler, we will also meet an old horseman who hopes to heal his beloved animal and a TV presenter who needs a guest for his show. They are all looking for someone or something in this kaleidoscopic portrait of loneliness and despair in today's Egypt. Ibrahim El Batout
Ibrahim El Batout ( ar, إبراهيم البطوط) is an Egyptian filmmaker, based in Cairo, Egypt. Born in Port Said on 20 September 1963. He has worked as a director, producer and cameraman capturing stories mainly about human loss, suffering, and displacement since 1987. He has directed numerous documentaries for international TV channels, such as ZDF, TBS, and ARTE. His documentary work has been honored by the Rory Peck Trust (2003), and has received the Axel Springer Award in Germany (1994 and 2000). As well as that his drama '' Ein Shams'' took home the Golden Bull, the top prize at the 54th Taormina Film Festival, 2008. The Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) was an annual five-day film festival that was organised from 2009 to 2012 to promote Arab and international films, and to develop a sustainable film industry in Qatar. One of Qatar's largest entertainment events, it attracted over 50,000 guests in 2010. The festivals were organised by the Doha Film Institute (DFI), which was founded by Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani which implements, consolidates and oversees film initiatives in Qatar. Abbas Kiarostami ( fa, عباس کیارستمی ; 22 June 1940 – 4 July 2016) was an Iranian film director, screenwriter, poet, photographer, and film producer. An active filmmaker from 1970, Kiarostami had been involved in the production of over forty films, including short film, shorts and documentaries. Dziga Vertov (russian: Дзига Вертов, born David Abelevich Kaufman, russian: Дави́д А́белевич Ка́уфман, and also known as Denis Kaufman; – 12 February 1954) was a Soviet Union, Soviet pioneer documentary film and newsreel director, as well as a cinema theorist.
