Hassan Tariq
Hassan Tariq (22 October 1934 – 24 April 1982) was a Pakistani film director, film producer and screenwriter who was famous for making films like Anjuman, Kaneez, Baharo Phool Barsao, ''Dewar Bhabhi''. Early life and career Hassan was born on 22 October 1934 in Amritsar, India. He migrated to Pakistan after its establishment. He started his career as an assistant director. He directed his first film, ''Neend'' (Sleep) in 1959 and became a successful director. He made around 40 films in Pakistan film industry and was the main reason behind the success of his wife Rani. Personal life Hassan married three times. He was married with actress Nighat Sultana, dancer Emi Minwala and actress Rani. Death He died on 24 April 1982 at Lahore, Pakistan. Rani ( Punjabi, ur, ; 8 December 1946 – 27 May 1993) was a Pakistani film and television actress. She gained success in the late 1960s when she made a hit pair with famous actor and producer Waheed Murad. She was also known as ''The Dancing Queen'', ''Queen of Lollywood'' and ''Lux Girl'' for her portrayal of romantic and dancing roles in films. She remained one of the most successful actresses of the subcontinent and was also popular for her dance performances in films. Rani died of cancer on 27 May 1993. Early life Rani was born on 8 December 1946 as Nasira in Mozang, Lahore to Malik Muhammed Shafi and Iqbal Begum in an Arain family. Her father was a driver for Mukhtar Begum, a singer and the wife of Agha Hashar Kashmiri, a well-known Urdu dramatist. Mukhtar Begum took over and raised Rani herself. ''Begum Jaan'' is a Pakistani drama film directed by Hassan Tariq and is the remake of director's own ''Neend'' (1959). Rani played the titular role of ''Begum Jaan'' in the film opposite Shahid while Qavi Khan, Aurangzeb and Rangeela appeared in supporting roles. The music of the film was composed by A. Hameed with lyrics by Qateel Shifai. The film released on 23 June 1977 and was a box office hit. ''Neend'' is a Pakistani drama film directed by Hassan Tariq in his directorial debut and released in 1959. Based on a story and screenplay by Riaz Shahid, the films stars Noor Jehan, Neelo and Aslam Pervaiz with Nighat Sultana, Allauddin and Agha Talish in supporting roles. The music was done by Rashid Attre while Noor Jehan also sang two songs of the film. ''Neend'' is one of the last films of Noor Jahan, after which she retired from acting.
