Hasnat Abdul Hye
Hasnat Abdul Hye (born 19 May 1937) is a Bangladeshi writer and novelist. He was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 1994. As of 2017, he has 70 published works in both Bengali and English. Early life and education Hye was born in Calcutta in 1937. His hometown is Sayedabad village, Kasba, BrahmanBaria. He studied economics at the University of Dhaka, the University of Washington, London School of Economics and development studies at Cambridge University. Career Hye taught economics at the University of Dhaka for two years before joining the Civil Service of Pakistan in 1965. He retired as a full Secretary of the Bangladesh Government in 2000. Works Hye wrote his first short story ''Carnival'' in 1960. His first travelogue is titled ''Manhattan and Ten Dollars.'' The Bangla Academy Literary Award ( bn, বাংলা একাডেমি সাহিত্য পুরস্কার; ''Bangla Academy Shahitya Puroshkar''), is given by the Bangla Academy of Bangladesh in recognition of creative genius in advancement and overall contribution in the field of Bengali language and literature. Novera Ahmed
Novera Ahmed (29 March 1939 – 6 May 2015) was a modern sculptor of Bangladesh. She was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 1997. Artist Zainul Abedin described her work saying "What Novera is doing now will take us a long time to understand – she is that kind of an artist." Early life and education Ahmed was born on 29 March 1939, in Sundarbans in the then Bengal Presidency, British India. Her ancestral home was in Chittagong. She studied in Calcutta and Comilla. In 1955 she was awarded a diploma in Design in the Modeling and Sculpture course from Camberwell College of Arts in London. At Camberwell, she studied under the British sculptor Jacob Epstein and Karel Vogel of Czechoslovakia. In 1966, she met Danish artist Asger Jorn in Paris. She studied European sculpture under the sculptor Venturino Venturi in Florence and later in Vienna. She was influenced by many western modern sculptors such as Henry Moore. The Bengal Presidency, officially the Presidency of Fort William and later Bengal Province, was a subdivision of the British Empire in India. At the height of its territorial jurisdiction, it covered large parts of what is now South Asia and Southeast Asia.
