Harviestoun Brewery
Harviestoun Brewery is a craft brewery based in Alva in Clackmannanshire, Scotland. History Harviestoun Brewery was founded in 1983 by Ken Brooker in a 200-year-old stone barn on a farm, near Tillicoultry and Dollar in Clackmannanshire. In 2004 the brewery moved to Alva Industrial Estate in nearby Alva. Harviestoun was bought by Caledonian Brewery in 2006. Following the takeover of Caledonian by Scottish & Newcastle in 2008, Harviestoun became independent again - it was bought by a group of Caledonian Brewery directors. Beers Harviestoun produce a range of cask ales, craft lagers and filtered bottled beers. Harviestoun brew a beer called Ola Dubh (Scottish Gaelic for ‘engine oil’) which is brewed in old Highland Park distillery casks and is 8% abv. Alva, Clackmannanshire
Alva (Scottish Gaelic: ''Ailbheach'', meaning rocky) is a small town in Clackmannanshire, set in the Central Lowlands of Scotland. It is one of a number of towns situated immediately to the south of the Ochil Hills, collectively referred to as the ''Hillfoots Villages'' or simply ''The Hillfoots''. It is located between Tillicoultry and Menstrie. Alva had a resident population of 5,181 at the 2001 census but this has since been revised to 4,600 in 2016. Lager () is beer which has been brewed and conditioned at low temperature. Lagers can be pale, amber, or dark. Pale lager is the most widely consumed and commercially available style of beer. Breweries In Scotland
This is a list of breweries in Scotland. Beer has been produced in Scotland for approximately 5,000 years. The Celtic tradition of using bittering herbs remained in Scotland longer than the rest of Europe. Most breweries developed in the Central Lowlands, which also contained the main centres of population. Scottish brewing reached a peak of 280 breweries in 1840. The merger of breweries led to changes, the higher hop content of some of the beers allowed them to travel better than previous products thus creating a higher quality product for export. Edinburgh and Alloa in particular became noted centres for the export of beer around the world. By 1920, there were only 62 brewers left. The decline continued so that by 1960 there were only 26 and by 1970, they had dropped to just 11. At the end of the twentieth century, small breweries had begun to spring up all over Scotland and the decline was reversed. Campaign For Real Ale
The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is an independent voluntary consumer organisation headquartered in St Albans, England, which promotes real ale, cider and perry and traditional British pubs and clubs. With just under 155,000 members, it is the largest single-issue consumer group in the UK, and is a founding member of the European Beer Consumers Union (EBCU). Highland Park distillery is the second northernmost single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Scotland ( Kimbland Distillery on Sanday being 22 miles further north), located in Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands. Scottish Gaelic ( gd, Gàidhlig ), also known as Scots Gaelic and Gaelic, is a Goidelic language (in the Celtic branch of the Indo-European language family) native to the Gaels of Scotland.
