Harold Albiston
Harold George Albiston (13 April 1916 – 18 January 1990) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood and Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Albiston, a recruit from Kew in the Victorian Amateur Football Association, made just one senior appearance for Collingwood, in the 1935 VFL season. He was cleared to Hawthorn in 1936, where he played with his younger brother Alec Albiston, who also debuted that year. Harold played in the final six rounds of the season, then didn't lose his spot in the team until 1940 (when he enlisted in the army), playing 60 consecutive games. Another brother, Ken Albiston, played for Richmond and Melbourne after the war. He was also a district cricketer, for Hawthorn-East Melbourne and Collingwood. Warrnambool
Warrnambool ( Maar: ''Peetoop'' or ''Wheringkernitch'' or ''Warrnambool'') is a city on the south-western coast of Victoria, Australia. At the 2021 census, Warrnambool had a population of 35,743. Situated on the Princes Highway, Warrnambool (Allansford) marks the western end of the Great Ocean Road and the southern end of the Hopkins Highway. History Origin of name The name "Warrnambool" originated from Mount Warrnambool, a scoria cone volcano 25 kilometres northeast of the town. Warrnambool (or Warrnoobul) was the title of both the volcano and the clan of Aboriginal Australian people who lived there. In the local language, the prefix Warnn- designated home or hut, while the meaning of the suffix -ambool is now unknown. Cricket Victoria (CV) is the governing body for the sport of cricket in the Australian state of Victoria. It was formed on 29 September 1875 as the Victorian Cricket Association. It is integrated with the Victorian Women's Cricket Association to include funding, programs, office accommodation and staff assistance. As of 2019, CV administered the 1,065 cricket clubs and 448,000 registered cricketers in Victoria, who compete across 75 cricket competitions. It employs well over a hundred full time and part time staff, and is responsible for offering professional and semi-professional contracts to several dozen of its male and female cricketers. CV also administers the Victorian men's and women's representative teams, and the Victorian Premier Cricket competitions. David Harold Albiston (22 December 1944 – 7 May 2023) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Hawthorn Football Club, Hawthorn in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1960s. Victorian Premier Cricket is a club cricket competition in the state of Victoria administered by Cricket Victoria. Each club fields four teams (firsts through to fourths) of adult players and usually play on weekends and public holidays. Matches are played on turf wickets under limited-time rules, with most results being decided on a first-innings basis. Outstanding players in the competition are selected to play for the Victorian Bushrangers at first-class and List A level, in the Sheffield Shield and Marsh One Day Cup competitions respectively. The competition commenced in the 1906–07 season when it was known as "District cricket", and was renamed in 1990.
