David Albiston
David Harold Albiston (22 December 1944 – 7 May 2023) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Hawthorn Football Club, Hawthorn in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1960s. A rover from the Melbourne High School Old Boys, Albiston played from the forward pocket in Hawthorn's losing 1963 VFL Grand Final team. His father Harold Albiston, Harold also played at Hawthorn and he is the nephew of Alec Albiston, Alec and Ken Albiston. The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Mulgrave, Victoria, that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was founded in 1902 in the inner-east suburb of Hawthorn, making it the youngest Victorian-based team in the AFL. Hawthorn is the only club to have won premierships in each decade of the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. In total, it has won 13 senior VFL/AFL premierships. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). In the sport of Australian rules football, each of the eighteen players in a team is assigned to a particular named position on the field of play. These positions describe both the player's main role and by implication their location on the ground. As the game has evolved, tactics and team formations have changed, and the names of the positions and the duties involved have evolved too. Harold Albiston
Harold George Albiston (13 April 1916 – 18 January 1990) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood and Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Albiston, a recruit from Kew in the Victorian Amateur Football Association, made just one senior appearance for Collingwood, in the 1935 VFL season. He was cleared to Hawthorn in 1936, where he played with his younger brother Alec Albiston, who also debuted that year. Harold played in the final six rounds of the season, then didn't lose his spot in the team until 1940 (when he enlisted in the army), playing 60 consecutive games. Another brother, Ken Albiston, played for Richmond and Melbourne after the war. He was also a district cricketer, for Hawthorn-East Melbourne and Collingwood. Alec Albiston
Alec Marsh Albiston (16 November 1917 – 13 April 1998) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and with North Melbourne for his final season. A goalkicking rover, he was captain and coach of Hawthorn between 1947 and 1949. Playing career Albiston was small in stature and a fitness fanatic. He took great pride in being able to run out a game. One of his personal aims was to run as fast in the last quarter as he had in the first and his remarkable durability ensured he never missed a game through injury. This fitness base saw him play many brilliant and tenacious games as a rover. He was very skilful and was constantly named in the press reports amongst the best players afield.
