Achievement Academy, officially Achievement Academy at Harbor City High School, is a Public school (government funded), public Alternative school, alternative High school#United States, high school located in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. The school currently resides in the former Northern High School (Baltimore), Northern High School campus, at 2201 Pinewood Avenue. Achievement Academy is an alternative school program operated by Baltimore City Public Schools to serve students with severe academic and/or behavior issues. From 2010 until 2015, the school was located at 2555 Harford Road, inside of the former Harbor City High School. Beginning with the 2008 school year, Achievement Academy shared this space with Baltimore Antioch Diploma Plus High School, but this latter school was closed by Baltimore City Public Schools in 2014. Northern High School (Baltimore)
Northern High School was a high school in the Baltimore City Public Schools system. The school mascot was the Viking. The school yearbook was the Valhalla. The address was 2201 Pinewood Ave; Baltimore, MD 21214. The school colors were green and white, but some graduating year's also had their own mascot and colors. The school initially was to have 7 - 12th grades with a combined Junior and Senior High in the same building. It opened in September of 1965 with 7th and 10th grades. Due to foreseen overcrowding September 1966 classes were 8th, 10th and 11th grades. September 1967 classes were for 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades. The first graduating class was June 1968. In September 1968 classes started with 10th 11th and 12th grades. In the 1960s the school was mostly college prep with a high percentage of students going on to college. Andrés Alonso (born June 14, 1957) was the chief executive officer of the Baltimore City Public School System in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Alonso came to Baltimore from the New York City Public School system in July 2007. He had been deputy chancellor in New York for the year prior to his appointment in Baltimore. Education Alonso graduated from Columbia University, '' magna cum laude'' and Phi Beta Kappa, obtained a J.D. from Harvard Law School and then an Ed.M. in 1999 and Ed.D. in 2006 from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
