Harald Maartmann
Harald Rolf Maartmann (5 January 1926 – 1 January 2021) was a Norwegian cross-country skier who competed in the 1950s. He won both the 17 km and the 50 km event in the Norwegian Championships in 1950. He finished fifth in the 50 km event at the 1950 World Championships in Lake Placid, New York. Maartmann also finished eighth in the 50 km event at the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo. He was the son of soccer player Rolf Maartmann and cousin of luger Titti Maartmann. His grandfather was Harald Sigvart Maartmann, the first Executive Director of Ringnes. His great-grandfather was Norwegian politician Knud Geelmuyden Fleischer Maartmann Knud Geelmuyden Fleischer Maartmann (1821–1888) was a Norwegian politician. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The ''Fédération internationale de ski et de snowboard'' (FIS; en, International Ski and Snowboard Federation) is the highest international governing body for skiing and snowboarding. Founded on 2 February 1924 in Chamonix, France during the inaugural Winter Olympic Games, the FIS is responsible for the Olympic disciplines of Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined, freestyle skiing, and snowboarding. Knud Geelmuyden Fleischer Maartmann (1821–1888) was a Norwegian politician. Biografia He was elected to the Parliament of Norway in 1865, representing the urban constituency of Flekkefjord. He worked as a merchant in the city. He was re-elected in 1868, and thus served two terms. Together with Kirstine Solberg he had the daughter Kaja Maartmann (1851–1933), who married Ellef Ringnes, brother of Amund Ringnes and founder of Ringnes Bryggeri. Competitive cross-country skiing encompasses a variety of race formats and course lengths. Rules of cross-country skiing are sanctioned by the International Ski Federation and by various national organizations. International competitions include the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, the FIS Cross-Country World Cup, and at the Winter Olympic Games. Such races occur over homologated, groomed courses designed to support classic (in-track) and freestyle events, where the skiers may employ skate skiing.
