The 1952 Winter Olympics cross-country skiing competition consisted of three events for men (18 km, 50 km and 4 × 10 km relay) and the first women's cross-country competition at an Olympic Games, of 10 km. Holmenkollen National Arena
Holmenkollen National Arena ( no, Holmenkollen nasjonalanlegg) is a Nordic skiing, ski jumping and biathlon venue located at Holmenkollen in Oslo, Norway. It consists of the large ski jumping hill Holmenkollbakken, the normal hill Midtstubakken and a stadium for cross-country skiing and a shooting range for biathlon. Since 1892, it has hosted the annual Holmenkollen Ski Festival, which is part of the world cup tournaments in ski jumping, cross-country skiing, Nordic combined, as well as annual Biathlon World Cup races. It has previously hosted the 1952 Winter Olympics, and the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 1930, 1966, 1982 and 2011. Mikal Kirkholt
Mikal Kirkholt (9 December 1920 – 28 June 2012) was a Norwegian cross-country skier. He represented the club IL Troll. At the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo he finished twelfth in the 18 kilometres and won a silver medal in the 4 × 10 km relay. Siiri Johanna "Äitee" Rantanen ( Lintunen, born 14 December 1924) is a Finnish retired cross-country skier. She competed in the 1952, 1956 and 1960 Olympics and won a medal in each of them: a gold and a bronze in the 3 × 5 km relay in 1956–60 and another bronze in the individual 10 km in 1952; she placed fifth and 15th over 10 km in 1956 and 1960, respectively. Lydia Wideman (later ''Wideman-Lehtonen'', 17 May 1920 – 13 April 2019) was a cross-country skier from Finland and the first female Olympic medalist in cross-country skiing. In 1952 she competed in thirteen 10 km races and won all of them, including the 1952 Winter Olympics, national championships and Lahti Ski Games. Wideman and her twin sister Tyyne were born in a family of ten siblings. Many members of her family were skilled cross-country skiers. In particular, Tyyne won the national 10 km title in 1949–1951, beating Lydia in 1951, but retiring the same year. Martin Lundström (30 May 1918 – 30 June 2016) was a Swedish cross-country skier who competed in the late 1940s and early 1950s. He was born in Tvärliden, Norsjö Municipality.
