Hans Tausen's Church
Hans Tausen's Church (Danish: Hans Tausens Kirke) is a Church of Denmark parish church in the Islands Brygge neighbourhood of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is named after Hans Tausen, the leading theologian of the Danish Reformation. History Islands Brygge Parish was disjoined from Christianshavn Parish on 20 December 1915. A temporary church hall, the current congregation hall (''Menighedssal''), was inaugurated that same year. Reformation In Denmark–Norway And Holstein
The Reformation in Denmark–Norway and Holstein saw the transition from Catholicism to Lutheranism in the realms ruled by the Danish-based House of Oldenburg in the first half of the sixteenth century. After the break-up of the Kalmar Union in 1521/1523, these realms included the kingdoms of Denmark (with the former east Danish provinces in Skåneland) and Norway (with Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands) and the Duchies of Schleswig (a Danish fief) and Holstein (a German fief), whereby Denmark also extended over today's Gotland (now part of Sweden) and Øsel in Estonia. The Protestant Reformation reached Holstein and Denmark in the 1520s. Fredrik Appel
Fredrik Appel (8 August 1884 – 6 November 1962) was a Danish architect. He was born at Rødding on Jutland, where his father was a high school teacher at Rødding Højskole. He graduated from Odense Technical School in 1903 and from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1913. He conducted study trips to Germany and Austria-Hungary in 1908 and in Germany and Italy in 1910. Later he was in Vienna 1922 and 1926. He was employed as an architect at the Danish State Railways in 1916, became architect assistant in 1919, course architect 1923 and department architect 1946–49. He was also the head of Taastrup Technical School and Taastrup Business School 1928-39 and ran his own drawing office from 1920 to 1944 in Taastrup. He was awarded the K.A. Hans Tausen
Hans Tausen (Tavsen) (1494 – 11 November 1561) was the leading Lutheran theologian of the Danish Reformation in Denmark. He served as Bishop of Ribe and published the first translation of the Pentateuch into Danish in 1535. Background Hans Tausen was born at Birkende on Funen in Denmark. Very little is known about his childhood and youth, but apparently he was a pupil at the grammar schools at Odense and Slagelse, finally settling down as a friar in the monastery of the Order of Saint John of Antvorskov near Slagelse. After studying at Rostock, where he got the degree of a Master of Arts and also after being ordained as a priest, he studied for a short time at the University of Copenhagen, and was then again sent abroad by his prior, visiting, among other places, the newly founded University of Leuven in Belgium and making the acquaintance of the Dutch humanists. Islands Brygge (English: Iceland's Quay) is a harbourfront area in central Copenhagen, Denmark, located on the north-western coast of Amager. The neighbourhood is noted for its waterfront park Havneparken, which is one of the most popular areas along the Copenhagen harbourfront and the location of one of the Copenhagen Harbour Baths. Established through a series of land reclamations from the 1880s, it served both military, residential, industrial and dockland purposes. In the mid-20th century it developed an infamous reputation as a neglected industrial and dockland area, but since 2000 it has undergone massive redevelopment and has become a fashionable and attractive neighbourhood.
