Hans Pfyffer Von Altishofen
Hans Pfyffer von Altishofen (28 March 1866 – 5 April 1953) was a Swiss businessman and politician. He was manager of the Grand Hotel National in Lucerne, Switzerland, and later President of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. He was involved in various other enterprises including a bank, railway, power station and paper mill. A passionate advocate of tourism in the Lucerne region, he was a co-founder of the Lucerne Golf Club. Life Hans Pfyffer was born in Lucerne on 28 March 1866. He was the son of the architect Alphons Maximilian Pfyffer von Altishofen (1834–1890), who had built the Grand Hotel National in Lucerne. He studied medicine, but abandoned this career with the death of his father, and became president of the Grand Hotel National. Hans Pfyffer founded the limited partnership of "Pfyffer & Cie". Alphons Maximilian Pfyffer von Altishofen (also known as Max Alphons Pfyffer; 12 October 1834, in Altishofen – 12 January 1890, in Lucerne) was a Swiss architect, hotelier and military Chief of Staff. César Ritz
César Ritz (23 February 1850 – 24 October 1918) was a Swiss hotelier and founder of several hotels, most famously the Hôtel Ritz in Paris and the Ritz and Carlton Hotels in London (the forerunners of the modern Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company). He was an early hotel chain founder known as "King of Hoteliers, and Hotelier to Kings," and it is from his name and that of his hotels that the term ''ritzy'' derives. Auguste Escoffier
Georges Auguste Escoffier (; 28 October 1846 – 12 February 1935) was a French chef, restaurateur and culinary writer who popularized and updated traditional French cooking methods. Much of Escoffier's technique was based on that of Marie-Antoine Carême, one of the codifiers of French ''haute cuisine''; Escoffier's achievement was to simplify and modernize Carême's elaborate and ornate style. Rigi
The Rigi (or ''Mount Rigi''; also known as ''Queen of the Mountains'') is a mountain massif of the Alps, located in Central Switzerland. The whole massif is almost entirely surrounded by the water of three different bodies of water: Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug and Lake Lauerz. The range is in the Schwyzer Alps, and is split between the cantons of Schwyz and Lucerne, although the main summit, named ''Rigi Kulm'', at 1,798 meters above sea level, lies within the canton of Schwyz.
