Hannans Club
Hannans is a residential suburb of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, a city in the Eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia. At the 2016 census it had a population of 2,546 people, up from 2,483 in 2011. Hannans is named after Paddy Hannan, the prospector whose discovery of gold in 1893 led to the initial rush. The name Hannans (shortened from Hannan's Camp) originally referred to the Kalgoorlie townsite, and it was only much later in the city's history that it was applied to the current suburb. Geography Hannans contains Kalgoorlie-Boulder's northernmost dwellings, which are located around from the Kalgoorlie town centre. Kalgoorlie is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia. The district includes not only the town of Kalgoorlie, but significant parts of the outback in central and eastern Western Australia. Long a Labor stronghold, the district was lost to the Liberal Party at the 2001 state election. The new Liberal member, Matt Birney, was re-elected at the 2005 state election but the district has changed hands at every election since then. Karlkurla is a locality in the Eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia. It is a suburb of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. At the 2016 census, Karlkurla had a population of 177 people, up from 42 in 2011. The Eastern Goldfields is part of the Western Australian Goldfields in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, covering the present and former gold-mining area east of Perth. Paddy Hannan
Patrick Hannan (baptised 26 April 1840 – 4 November 1925) was a gold prospector whose lucrative discovery on 14 June 1893 set off a major gold rush in the area now known as Kalgoorlie-Boulder in Western Australia. The resulting goldfield has been mined ever since and is renowned as ''The Golden Mile'', the richest square mile in the world. The modern open-cut mine is a vast, astonishing sight known as the Super Pit. Hannan from Quin, County Clare, and his partners Thomas Flanagan from Ennis, County Clare and Daniel Shea from County Cork, are still remembered and celebrated in Australia and in Ireland. Leonora, Western Australia
Leonora is a town in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, located northeast of the state capital, Perth, and north of the city of Kalgoorlie. History The first European explorer to visit the area was John Forrest in 1869. On 21 June 1869 Forrest's party made camp near a conspicuous hill, which Forrest named Mount Leonora, after his six-year-old niece Frances (Fanny) Leonora Hardey. In 1895, gold was discovered in the area by prospector Edward "Doodah" Sullivan at the Johannesburg lease just north of the current townsite.
