Steve Hanke
Steve H. Hanke () is a professor of applied economics at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He is also a senior fellow and director of the Troubled Currencies Project at the libertarian Cato Institute in Washington, DC, and co-director of the Johns Hopkins University's Institute for Applied Economics, Global Health, and the Study of Business Enterprise in Baltimore, Maryland. Hanke is known for his work as a currency reformer in emerging-market countries such as Albania, Argentina, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ecuador, Estonia, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Montenegro, Russia, Venezuela, and Yugoslavia. Karl Hanke
Karl August Hanke (24 August 1903 – 8 June 1945) was an official of the Nazi Party (NSDAP) during its rule over Germany and served as the fifth and last '' Reichsführer'' of the ''Schutzstaffel'' (SS). He also served as ''Gauleiter'' of Gau Lower Silesia from 1941 to 1945 and as ''Oberpräsident'' of the Prussian Province of Lower Silesia. Captured on 6 May 1945, he was shot and wounded during an escape attempt and then beaten to death by Czech communists on 8 June, after the war had ended. Life Hanke was born in Lauban (present-day Lubań) in Silesia, on 24 August 1903. His older brother was killed in World War I. Hanke was too young for service in the war and attended Gymnasium through Obersekunda. He served in the Reichswehr as a ''Zeitfreiwilliger'' (temporary volunteer) in the 19th Infantry Regiment (von Courbiere) at Frankfurt/Oder from 1920 to 1921. Lewis Hanke
Lewis Hanke (1905–1993) was an American historian of colonial Latin America, and is best known for his writings on the Spanish conquest of Latin America. Hanke, along with two others, Irving A. Leonard and John T. Lanning, presented a revisionist narrative of colonial history that focused on the role of Bartolomé de las Casas, who famously advocated for the rights of Native Americans, and searched for just resolutions to the tensions between the ''conquistadores'' and the natives during the colonial period of Spanish rule. Hanke's writings documented Las Casas' work as a political activist, historian, political theorist, and anthropologist. Mike Hanke (; born 5 November 1983) is a German former professional footballer who played the position of forward. He has been described as a player who "gives it his all in attack and is always dangerous in the opponent's penalty area." He earned 17 caps for the Germany national team between 2005 and 2007, and was in the teams which finished third at the 2005 Confederations Cup and 2006 World Cup on home soil. Gregor Maria Hanke OSB (born 2 July 1954 as Franz Maria Hanke) is a German prelate of the Catholic Church who has been the bishop of Eichstätt since 2006. A member of the Benedictines, he was abbot of Plankstetten Abbey from 1993 to 2006. Early life Franz Hanke, a teacher, and his wife Elisabeth lived in the Troppau district in the Sudetenland until 1946 when they were expelled and settled in Middle Franconia with their three sons and two daughters. Sonya Helen Hanke (27 September 1933 – 4 September 1993) was an Australian pianist and educator. The daughter of Henry Aloysius Hanke, an Archibald- and Sulman prize-winning artist, and Emily Mortimer, she was born in Hunters Hill in Sydney. Hanke was educated at North Sydney Girls High School and the New South Wales State Conservatorium of Music, receiving diplomas in performance and teaching in 1951. In the following year, she won the open piano championship at the Sydney Eisteddfod and a Pedley, Woolley, McMenamin Trust scholarship. Hugon Hanke
Hugon Hanke (26 March 1904 – 19 December 1964) was a Polish politician, best known for being 38th Prime Minister of Poland and 8th Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland in Exile (in 1955) and for his unexpected return to the Communist-ruled country while serving as PM. He was involved in politics during the Second Polish Republic before World War II. He was an active member of the Christian Workers Union (''Chrześcijańskie Związki Zawodowe'') and of the Labour Party (''Stronnictwo Pracy'') in Silesia. During the war he served as a soldier in the Polish army in the West. After Prime Minister in Exile Stanisław Mackiewicz fled back to Poland, Hanke was named as his successor by President August Zaleski and served from 8 August to 10 September 1955.
