Hakka Round House
The Hakka Round House () is a Hakka building in Houlong Township, Miaoli County, Taiwan. History The house was built by Miaoli County Government and was opened on 25 October 2014 with a cost of NT$130 million. In 2015, the county government planned to tender the operation of the building to ease its financial debt. Architecture The design of the brick house is based on the architecture of Tulou in Fujian. The house also consists of ring-shaped trails, arc-shaped observation deck, a welcoming square and water paths. The house has one floor underground and three floors above the ground. The basement floor consists of a multimedia viewing room, the ground floor consists of a round exhibition and performance hall, the upper floor consists of an exhibition space and the top most floor consists of DIY classrooms. Houlong
Houlong Township is an urban township in western Miaoli County, Taiwan. It is bordered by the Taiwan Strait on the west and Zaoqiao Township on the east. It lies at the mouth of the Houlong River. Miaoli HSR station is located in Houlong. Name The township's name originates from that of a Taiwanese Plains Aborigines settlement. During the Kingdom of Tungning, the area was called ''Aulangsia'' (). Other variants of ''Aulang'' existed (e.g., ). In 1920, during Japanese rule, the place was renamed , under , Shinchiku Prefecture. Miaoli County
Miaoli County ( Mandarin Pinyin: ''miáo lì xiàn''; Hakka PFS: ''Mèu-li̍t-yen''; Hokkien POJ: ''Biâu-le̍k-koān'' or ''Miâu-le̍k-koān'') is a county in western Taiwan. Miaoli is adjacent with Hsinchu County and Hsinchu City to the north, Taichung to the south, and borders the Taiwan Strait to the west. Tulou
A tulou (), or "earthen building", is a traditional communal Hakka people residence found in Fujian, in South China, usually of a circular configuration surrounding a central shrine, and part of Hakka architecture. These vernacular structures were occupied by clan groups. Although most tulou were of earthen construction, the definition "tulou" is a broadly descriptive label for a building type and does not indicate construction type. Some were constructed out of cut granite or had substantial walls of fired brick. Most large-scale tulou seen today were built of a composite of earth, sand, and lime known as sanhetu rather than just earth. The tulou is often three to four stories high. Miaoli HSR Station
Miaoli () is a railway station in Miaoli County, Taiwan served by Taiwan High Speed Rail. Transfers to Fengfu railway station can be made at this station, which links to Miaoli railway station located in Miaoli City. Overview Due to funding problems, Miaoli Station was not constructed when Taiwan High Speed Rail first opened for service in 2007, and the detailed design began in 2010. Construction began on 28 January 2013, and the station opened on 1 December 2015. The station consists of one elevated main station and two side platforms. Availability of high speed rail reduced travel time between Miaoli County and Taipei City to 43-49 minutes. Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) is the high-speed railway of Taiwan consisting of one line that runs approximately along the west coast, from the capital Taipei to the southern city of Kaohsiung.
