HM Prison Send
HM Prison Send is a closed category women's prison in the extreme south of Ripley nearer Send in Surrey, England. Its post town is Woking. The prison is operated by His Majesty's Prison Service. History A smallpox isolation hospital on its site became a prison in 1962 when it opened as a Junior Detention Centre. It remained as such until 1987 when it was re-classified as a Category C Adult Male Training Prison. Send was demolished and completely rebuilt by 1999, opening as a closed Female Training Prison. In August 2005, a report by the Independent Monitoring Board criticised a marked increase in self-harm and suicide amongst inmates and lack of staff, whereas it praised the prison's education provision and its farms and gardens scheme. Ripley, Surrey
Ripley is a village in Surrey, England. The village has existed since Norman times – the chancel of the church of St. Mary Magdalen shows construction of circa 1160 there and supporting feet of fines and ecclesiastical records mention the village at the time. Ripley's sister village of Send to the south-west was the governing parish over the village for over 700 years until 1878 when they became two separate ecclesiastical parishes; they became separate civil parishes in 1933. Lying on the main road from London to Portsmouth (from the 1930s referred to as the A3), Ripley was the post town for the whole area (including Woking) from 1813 to 1865. With the coming of the railway to what was then Woking Common in 1838, Ripley's importance diminished, and Woking became its post town in 1865. Dena Thompson
Dena Thompson (born 1960), commonly known as The Black Widow, is a convicted murderer, confidence trickster and bigamist. She habitually met men through lonely hearts columns and stole their money. She is currently in prison for murdering former media manager Julian Webb, her second husband (though she was still married to her first). She was acquitted of the attempted murder of Richard Thompson (who she married in 1998 after her divorce), and is also suspected of murdering an ex-boyfriend. After Webb's remains were exhumed and analyzed, she was convicted of murder in 2003 and sentenced to life. 2012 Derby Arson Attack
The 2012 Derby arson attack occurred on 11 May 2012 at 18 Victory Road, a semi-detached house in a residential street in Osmaston (erroneously reported by the press as being in Allenton), Derby, Derbyshire, England. Five children died at the scene, while the oldest later died in hospital. The parents of the children, Mairead and Mick Philpott, along with their friend Paul Mosley, were later arrested and charged with murder. In December 2012 their charges were downgraded to manslaughter. On 2 April 2013, Mick Philpott and Paul Mosley were found guilty by unanimous verdicts, while Mairead Philpott was found guilty by majority verdict. The ''Daily Express'' is a national daily United Kingdom middle-market newspaper printed in tabloid format.
