HŽ Series 6111
The HŽ series 6111 is an electric multiple unit used by Croatian Railways ( hr, hrvatske željeznice, HŽ), formerly the class JŽ 441 of ''ŽTP Zagreb'' during the period of Yugoslav Railways. The vehicles were built by Ganz, Hungary (production started in1979). Most of the sets were later modernized by TŽV Gredelj between 2002 and 2015, including both interior and exterior modifications. Between 1992 and mid-2010's, the principal purpose of the units was to serve Zagreb Commuter Rail where they operated exclusively, in addition to some other electrified lines in short to medium distance from Zagreb. Between 2011 and 2024, however, they were entirely replaced by the HŽ 6112 series on Zagreb suburban lines, so remained 6 111 sets were mostly returned to serve some of the lines on other regional routes across the country. After the electric traction system on the section Moravice - Rijeka - Šapjane (border with Slovenia) was changed from 3 kV to 25 kV in 2012, the 6 111 ser ...

Electricity
Electricity is the set of physical phenomena associated with the presence and motion of matter that has a property of electric charge. Electricity is related to magnetism, both being part of the phenomenon of electromagnetism, as described by Maxwell's equations. Various common phenomena are related to electricity, including lightning, static electricity, electric heating, electric discharges and many others. The presence of an electric charge, which can be either positive or negative, produces an electric field. The movement of electric charges is an electric current and produces a magnetic field. When a charge is placed in a location with a non-zero electric field, a force will act on it. The magnitude of this force is given by Coulomb's law. If the charge moves, the electric field would be doing work on the electric charge. Thus we can speak of electric potential at a certain point in space, which is equal to the work done by an external agent in carrying a unit of p ...

Zagreb Commuter Rail
Zagreb Commuter Rail is the rapid transit, suburban/commuter railway network that provides mass-transit service in the city of Zagreb, Croatia and its suburbs. This suburban rail system, introduced in 1992 on the route Savski Marof - Zagreb Glavni kolodvor, Zagreb Main Station - Dugo Selo, is operated by Croatian Railways ( hr, Hrvatske željeznice, HŽ) and mainly covers the eastern and western parts of Zagreb, using the M102 railway (Croatia), M102 corridor between Dugo Selo and Zagreb Main Station and M101 railway (Croatia), M101 corridor between Zagreb Main Station and Savski Marof. In 2010 the route was extended by 3 more stations, Sutla, Laduč and Harmica, using the corridor L102 between Savski Marof and Harmica. Since the system started operating, the lines have been serviced by HŽ series 6111 electric multiple unit, EMU's built by Ganz. In 2011, a prototype of a new series of Electric multiple unit, EMU trains for suburban traffic of the City of Zagreb was handed ov ...

Rijeka
Rijeka ( , , ; also known as Fiume hu, Fiume, it, Fiume ; local Chakavian: ''Reka''; german: Sankt Veit am Flaum; sl, Reka) is the principal seaport and the third-largest city in Croatia (after Zagreb and Split). It is located in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County on Kvarner Bay, an inlet of the Adriatic Sea and in 2021 had a population of 108,622 inhabitants. Historically, because of its strategic position and its excellent deep-water port, the city was fiercely contested, especially between the Holy Roman Empire, Italy and Croatia, changing rulers and demographics many times over centuries. According to the 2011 census data, the majority of its citizens are Croats, along with small numbers of Serbs, Bosniaks and Italians. Rijeka is the main city and county seat of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. The city's economy largely depends on shipbuilding (shipyards "3. Maj" and "Viktor Lenac Shipyard") and maritime transport. Rijeka hosts the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. ...

Railway Electric Traction
Railway electric traction describes the various types of locomotive and multiple units that are used on electrification systems around the world. History Railway electrification as a means of traction emerged at the end of the nineteenth century, although experiments in electric rail have been traced back to the mid-nineteenth century. Thomas Davenport, in Brandon, Vermont, erected a circular model railroad on which ran battery-powered locomotives (or locomotives running on battery-powered rails) in 1834. Robert Davidson, of Aberdeen, Scotland, created an electric locomotive in 1839 and ran it on the Edinburgh-Glasgow railway at 4 miles per hour. The earliest electric locomotives tended to be battery-powered. In 1880, Thomas Edison built a small electrical railway, using a dynamo as the motor and the rails as the current-carrying medium. The electric current flowed through the metal rim of otherwise wooden wheels, being picked up via contact brushes. Electrical traction offered ...

HŽ Series 6112
HŽ series 6112 is a class of low-floor electrical multiple units manufactured by the Croatian company Končar - Electric Vehicles (), operated by Croatian Railways ( hr, hrvatske željeznice, HŽ) and the Railways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. A total of 55 units are to be manufactured for Croatian Railways by 2024, with the first units being produced in 2011. The Railways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina also ordered one intercity train, with no indication of ordering additional units. Croatian Railways operates their fleet on suburban, regional and InterCity routes. The prototype made its first test run on the Zagreb – Dugo Selo line on July 3, 2011. The construction, design and driving characteristics of the low-floor electric train enable optimized operations and improved passenger comfort on regional services depending upon the length of the route. Passenger space is uniform along the entire train, without partitions and stairs. Floor height ...

Ganz
The Ganz Works or Ganz ( or , ''Ganz companies'', formerly ''Ganz and Partner Iron Mill and Machine Factory'') was a group of companies operating between 1845 and 1949 in Budapest, Hungary. It was named after Ábrahám Ganz, the founder and the manager of the company.
