An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, or more formally Aktiebolaget Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (Greater Stockholm Local Transit Company), is the organisation running all of the land based public transport systems in Stockholm County. Stockholm Metro
The Stockholm metro ( sv, Stockholms tunnelbana) is a rapid transit system in Stockholm, Sweden. The first line opened in 1950, and today the system has 100 stations in use, of which 47 are underground and 53 above ground. There are three coloured lines, as shown on the tube maps, which form seven numbered routes with different termini. Routes numbered 17, 18 and 19 (green line), 13 and 14 (red line) and 10 and 11 (blue line) all go through the centre of the city, resulting in a very centralized system. Högdalen
Högdalen (the High Valley) is a suburban district in South Stockholm, Sweden, built around the metro station with this name on line 19. It was connected to Stockholm City Centre in 1954, three years after the town planning of the Högdalen district was approved. Högdalen (''High Valley'') is roughly divided between the residential and commercial areas near the metro station in the centre and the industrial area and landfill further to the east. The inhabitants tend to vote mostly for the Social Democrats and the Left Party (in the election of 2006, the left block won with 55,7% of the votes). Slussen Metro Station
Slussen is a station of the Stockholm metro, located in Slussenområdet in the district of Södermalm. The station is served by the Red and Green lines. Originally opened in 1933 as an underground tram stop, on 1 October 1950 it became the terminal of the first metro line running south to Hökarängen, it was again rebuilt when the extension of the line north to Hötorget was opened on 24 November 1957. On 5 April 1964, the first stretch of the Red line, between T-Centralen and Fruängen, was opened. Just outside the northern entrance to the metro station, there is a bus terminal for buses to the Nacka and Värmdö municipalities. The terminus for the Saltsjöbanan railway was also located here, but it was moved to Henriksdal in 2016 due to the reconstruction of Slussen.
