Hélie De Noailles
Hélie Marie Auguste Jacques Bertrand Philippe de Noailles, 10th Duke of Noailles (born 16 July 1943, in Boulogne-Billancourt), simply known as Hélie de Noailles, is a French nobleman, diplomat and trade representative. He was styled with the courtesy title '' duc d'Ayen'' (Duke of Ayen) from 1953 till 2009, and currently with the French title '' duc de Noailles'' (Duke of Noailles). Early life and education Hélie de Noailles was born in Boulogne-Billancourt as the only son and child of François de Noailles, 9th Duke of Noailles, and Charlotte de Caumont La Force. After studying at the private catholic school Cours Hattemer, 52, Rue de Londres in Paris, he subsequently obtained a Licentiate in Law from the Paris Law Faculty of the University of Paris, and a diploma from the Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris in 1967, before going on to the ''École nationale d'administration'' where he graduated in 1969. Auguste Armand Ghislain Marie Joseph Nompar de Caumont de La Force (18 August 1878, Dieppe – 3 October 1961, Saint-Aubin-de-Locquenay), 12th Duke of La Force, was a French duke and historian. Specialising in the 17th century (he was himself a descendant of the 1000-year-old Caumont de la Force family), his work allowed him to reconstruct events in which his ancestors had taken part. François De Noailles (1905-2009)
François de Noailles, (2 July 1519 – 19 September 1585) Papal Prothonotary, made Bishop of Dax in 1556, was French ambassador in Venice in the 1560s, and French ambassador of Charles IX to the Ottoman Empire from 1571 to 1575. François was one of three brothers who served as French diplomats, three of the 19 children of Louis de Noailles and Catherine de Pierre-Buffière. He was born on 2 July 1519 at the Château de Noillac. Within the context of a Franco-Ottoman alliance, and the obtention of special trading and diplomatic privileges between France and the Ottoman Empire since 1535–1536, François de Noailles endeavoured to maintain the diplomatic monopoly of France with the Ottoman Empire, in order to have economic and political leverage in the Mediterranean, against Spain and Italian city-states. The title of Duke of Noailles was a French peerage created in 1663 for Anne de Noailles, Count of Ayen. History Noailles is the name of a prominent French noble family, derived from the castle of Noailles in the territory of Ayen, between Brive and Turenne in Limousin, and claiming to date back to the 11th century. 1981 French Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in France on 26 April 1981, with a second round on 10 May. François Mitterrand defeated incumbent president, Valery Giscard d'Estaing to become the first Socialist president of the Fifth Republic. In the first round of voting on 26 April 1981, a political spectrum of ten candidates stood for election, and the leading two candidates – Mitterrand and Giscard d'Estaing – advanced to a second round. Mitterrand and his Socialist Party received 51.76% of the vote, while Giscard and his Union for French Democracy trailed with about 48.24%, a margin of 1,065,956 votes.
