Hywel Ab Edwin, King Of Deheubarth
Hywel ap Edwin (died 1044) was king of Deheubarth in south Wales from 1033 to 1043. Hywel was the son of Edwin ap Einion and great-grandson of Hywel Dda, law giver and a king of great influence in early medieval Wales. When the previous king of Deheubarth, Rhydderch ap Iestyn, (who had usurped the throne following the 1023 death of Llywelyn ap Seisyll), died in 1033, Hywel became king of Deheubarth, sharing the realm with his brother Maredudd ap Edwin. They were considered the heirs due to their seniority in descent from Hywel Dda. Hywel and Maredudd's rule did not go unchallenged as the sons of Rhydderch fought in a battle against them in 1034 at Irathwy. Deheubarth (; , thus 'the South') was a regional name for the Welsh kingdoms, realms of south Wales, particularly as opposed to kingdom of Gwynedd, Gwynedd (Latin: ''Venedotia''). It is now used as a shorthand for the various realms united under the House of Dinefwr, but that Deheubarth itself was not considered a proper kingdom on the model of Gwynedd, Kingdom of Powys, Powys, or Kingdom of Dyfed, Dyfed is shown by its rendering in Medieval Latin, Latin as ''dextralis pars'' or as ''Britonnes dexterales'' ("the Southern Britons") and not as a named land. River Towy
The River Towy (, ; also known as the River Tywi) is one of the longest rivers flowing entirely within Wales. Its total length is . It is noted for its sea trout and salmon fishing. Gruffydd Ap Rhydderch
Gruffudd ap Rhydderch (d. AD 1055) was a king of Gwent and part of the kingdom of Morgannwg in south Wales, and later king of Deheubarth. Gruffudd was the son of Rhydderch ab Iestyn, who had been able to take over the kingdom of Deheubarth from 1023 to 1033. Rhydderch Ab Iestyn
Rhydderch ab Iestyn (died 1033) was king of Deheubarth and controlled the Kingdom of Powys in Wales dring the early part of the eleventh century. Comparatively little has been recorded about Rhydderch ab Iestyn in the annals. When Llywelyn ap Seisyll, king of Gwynedd and Deheubarth, died unexpectedly in 1023, Rhydderch was able to seize Deheubarth, apparently by force of arms, disinheriting Llewellyn's young son Gruffudd. In 1033 Rhydderch is recorded by '' Brut y Tywysogion'' as having been slain by the Irish, but with no explanation of the circumstances. The kingdom of Deheubarth returned to the original dynasty in the form of Hywel ab Edwin and his brother Maredudd. Maredudd Ab Owain Ab Edwin
Maredudd ab Owain ab Edwin (died 1072) was a prince of the kingdom of Deheubarth in south west Wales, ruling between 1063 and his death in 1072. Maredudd was the son of Owain ab Edwin and was hence the male-line heir of Hywel Dda. The throne had been seized from the previous king of this line - Hywel ab Edwin - by Gruffydd ap Llywelyn, who claimed the throne through his mother, Angharad. Angharad was the daughter of Maredudd ab Owain ap Hywel, while Hywel claimed the throne through the latter Maredudd's younger brother, Einion (Hywel's grandfather). Pencader () is a small village in Carmarthenshire, Wales, in the community of Llanfihangel-ar-Arth. It is located around 3 miles (5 km) south-east of Llandysul and 6.5 miles (10 km) south-west of Llanybydder, in the valley of the Gwen brook, shortly before the confluence with the River Talog, to form the River Tyweli (a tributary of the Teifi).
