Hypnos (between 2004 and 2006, Hypnös) is a Czech death metal band from Staré Město, formed in 1999. The group consists of Bronislav Kovařík (vocals, bass), Peter Hlaváč (drums), Vlastimil Urbanec (guitar), and Martin Klinkera (guitar). As of 2020, they have released six studio albums, two EPs, and one compilation. History Hypnos was formed in the Czech town of Staré Město in 1999 by singer and bassist Bronislav "Bruno" Kovařík and drummer Peter "Pegas" Hlaváč, who were both previously in the death metal band Krabathor. The band's name is inspired by the 1990 song by Austrian death metal band Pungent Stench. They were soon joined by guitarist Radek "RAD" Lebánek. Having signed with Morbid Records in 2000, the band released a self-titled EP, which included a cover of "the Cave" by Italian metal band Bulldozer. Staré Město (Uherské Hradiště District)
Staré Město (; in 1950–1996 Staré Město u Uherské Hradiště) is a town in Uherské Hradiště District in the Zlín Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 6,600 inhabitants. Geography Staré Město is located mostly in the Lower Morava Valley. A small western part of the municipal territory lies in the Kyjov Hills. Staré Město lies on the right bank of the Morava River, which forms the border with Uherské Hradiště. The Baťa Canal flows through the eastern part of the town. Sodom (band)
Sodom is a German thrash metal band from Gelsenkirchen, formed in 1981. They have gone through many lineup changes, leaving bassist/vocalist Tom Angelripper as the only constant member. The band is currently composed of Angelripper, guitarists Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik (who was a member of Sodom from 1987 to 1989 and rejoined in 2018) and Yorck Segatz, and drummer Toni Merkel. Along with Kreator, Destruction and Tankard, Sodom has been referred to as one of the "Big Four" of Teutonic thrash metal. While three of those bands (except Tankard) created a sound that would influence the death metal and black metal genres, Sodom's early music style would greatly influence many late 1980s and early 1990s black metal bands more than others. Master (American Band)
Master is an American death metal band led by Paul Speckmann. Originally formed in Chicago, the band later relocated to Uherské Hradiště, Czechia. History The group was originally formed by Speckmann in 1983 as Death Strike, after the demise of his earlier band, Warcry. In 1985, Speckmann renamed the band Master and obtained a record deal with Combat Records. An album was recorded but was shelved due to issues with the label. The recording sessions for the album were released in 2003 by Displeased Records as ''Unreleased 1985 Album''. In 1990, the band signed with the German label Nuclear Blast, which also had Speckmann's other group, Abomination, under contract. Master released their debut album, titled ''Master'', in 1990. It was recorded with Chris Mittelbrun on guitars and Bill Schmidt on drums. Paul Speckmann (born September 28, 1963) is an American bassist and singer from Chicago, Illinois. He currently lives in Uherské Hradiště, Czechia. Biography Speckmann formed his first band, Warcry, in 1982. He recorded the demo ''Trilogy of Terror'' with them in 1983, before starting the death metal band Master. This project was quickly put on hold, however, and Speckmann launched Death Strike, with whom he recorded the ''Fuckin' Death'' demo in 1985. Brutal Assault
Brutal Assault is an open-air extreme metal festival that takes place in the 18th-century army fortress Josefov, located in Jaroměř, Czechia. It is held each August early in the month from Wednesday until Saturday. The festival started in 1996, originally focused on grindcore. For many years, it was a small event with mainly Czech and Slovak bands performing. It changed location several times and grew into a large event by 2006, when over 7,000 people attended the festival in Svojšice. After moving to Josefov, attendances grew further to 15,000 in 2012 and the festival has operated two alternating main stages since. Currently, Brutal Assault features artists that perform all forms of extreme metal, including some of the genre's most prominent figures, as well as artists with dark and intense styles from genres outside of heavy metal such as punk rock, experimental rock and electronic. Törr is a Czech metal band founded in Prague in 1977. They are considered one of the first Czech black metal bands. To date, they have released ten studio albums, two live albums, and two compilations. History Early years: 1977–1986 Törr, named after the unit of pressure, was formed in 1977 by vocalist and guitarist Ota Hereš and drummer Pavel Kadeřábek, though the original spelling of their name lacked the metal umlaut it sports today. Voivod is a Canadian heavy metal band from Jonquière, Quebec (now Saguenay, Quebec). Kreator is a German thrash metal band from Essen, formed in 1982. Their current lineup consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Miland "Mille" Petrozza, drummer Jürgen "Ventor" Reil, lead guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö, and bassist Frédéric Leclercq. The band's lineup has changed multiple times over its -year career, most noticeably with their bassists and lead guitarists.
