Hymenochaetaceae
The ''Hymenochaetaceae'' are a family of fungi in the order Hymenochaetales. The family contains several species that are implicated in many diseases of broad-leaved and coniferous trees, causing heart rot, canker and root diseases, and also esca disease of grapevines. According to a standard reference text, the family contains 27 genera and 487 species. Genera References Hymenochaetaceae The ''Hymenochaetaceae'' are a family of fungi in the order Hymenochaetales. Hymenochaetales
The Hymenochaetales are an order of fungi in the class Agaricomycetes. The order in its current sense is based on molecular research and not on any unifying morphological characteristics. According to one 2008 estimate, the Hymenochaetales contain around 600 species worldwide, mostly corticioid fungi and poroid fungi, but also including several clavarioid fungi and agarics. Species of economic importance include wood decay fungi in the genera '' Phellinus'' and ''Inonotus'' sensu lato, some of which may cause losses in forestry. Therapeutic properties are claimed for ''Inonotus obliquus'' ("chaga") and ''Phellinus linteus'', both of which are now commercially marketed. Taxonomy History The order was proposed in 1977 to recognize the family Hymenochaetaceae at a higher taxonomic rank. As originally conceived, species within the Hymenochaetales had several morphological features in common, notably brown or brownish basidiocarps (fruit bodies) that turn black in alkali, hyphae l ...

Hymenochaete
''Hymenochaete'' is a genus of fungi in the family Hymenochaetaceae. The genus has a widespread distribution, especially in tropical regions. The name probably means ''long-haired membrane'' from the Greek ''hymen'' meaning ''membrane'' and ''chaite'' meaning ''long hair''. On the basis of sequence data, in 2002 the genus '' Pseudochaete'' was constructed for ''Hymenochaete tabacina'', as it was found to be more closely related to the poroid Hymenochaetales '' Onnia'' and '' Porodaedalea''. ''Pseudochaete'' is however considered illegitimate since it is preoccupied by an algal genus. The genus name of ''Onnia'' is in honour of Onni Alexander Karsten (1868-1958), who was a Finnish gardener, who worked at the Mustiala Agriculture Institute in Tampere. Onni Alexander Karsten was also the son of Petter Adolf Karsten and the genus was circumscribed by Petter Adolf Karsten in Bidrag Kännedom Finlands Natur Folk vol.48 on pages 326 - 376 in 1889. Inocutis
''Inocutis'' is a genus of nine species of polypore fungi in the family Hymenochaetaceae. Taxonomy The genus was circumscribed by Jean-Louis Fiasson and Tuomo Niemeläin 1984 as a segregate genus from ''Inonotus''. They originally included three European species formerly placed in ''Inonotus'' section ''Phymatopilus'', a grouping of species conceived by Marinus Anton Donk in 1974. Molecular data later supported the genus concept. ''Inocutis'' is phylogenetically close to '' Fomitiporella''. Description ''Inocutis'' species produce annual fruit bodies. They are characterized by the absence of setae, the presence of a rudimentary granular core, and the presence of sclerified hyphae in the granular core. They have yellowish to brownish spores that are ellipsoid in shape, and non-dextrinoid In mycology a tissue or feature is said to be amyloid if it has a positive amyloid reaction when subjected to a crude chemical test using iodine as an ingredient of either Melzer's reagent or Lu ...
