Hydrofunk Records
Hydrofunk Records is an independent Australian Hip hop music, hip hop record label that represents a number of Australian acts including the Resin Dogs and Def Wish Cast. History Hydrofunk Records started in 1994 in music, 1994 as a series of hip hop events to give local artists an avenue to perform. In 1995, Hydrofunk founder DJ Katch met Dave Atkins (musician), Dave Atkins through various live funk, jazz, and hip hop projects. Together they decided to form Hydrofunk Records in response to Brisbane's lack of outlets for underground hip hop. In 1997 Hydrofunk released its first L.P. with Blunted Stylus's self-titled record. One year later Hydrofunk released Resin Dogs' ''Grinnin which received significant airplay on both local and national radio, followed by the Volcanic Lab EP in 1998 which gained the band momentum with touring nationally. Braintax
Joe Christie, better known as Braintax, is a British hip hop artist and producer. Christie had also recorded or appeared under the pseudonyms Brando Flux and Joey Brains. All of his releases were on his own record label, Low Life Records. Originally Braintax was a duo, consisting of Christie and DJ Test, who also contributed vocals and production. Test departed following the 1997 release of the '' Future Years'' EP and Christie retained the Braintax name; it has since become synonymous with him as a solo artist. On the track "Monsoon Funk" on ''Panorama'', Christie explained Braintax means "we can all get busy if we use our brains." Braintax's lyrics have made multiple references to spirituality, healthy eating, the state of hip hop music, environmentalism, and politics. On Mr. Scruff's 2002 album ''Trouser Jazz'', Braintax was featured on the song "Vibrate". Rhibosome
Rhibosome were a three piece electronic outfit, which formed in Perth in 1998. They issued a self-titled album via Hydrofunk Records in May 2002. The group performed at various festivals in Australia before they disbanded in 2004. History Rhibosome began in 1998 in Perth by two ex-members of Whak, a street theatre percussion group. Clayton Chipper and Dave McKinney began Rhibosome by fusing "live drumming and percussion with electronica." Later that year they performed at festivals in Canada, Singapore, Darwin and Melbourne. McKinney later reminisced: We had a machine each, like a bike, sorta like a Sulo bin filled with wheelchair batteries and a chassis bolted to the back. It had wheels on the front and back, and you could steer the whole thing with a joystick. It had loads of percussion instruments and foam and stuff. Invada Records
Geoffrey Paul Barrow (born 9 December 1971) is an English music producer, composer, and DJ. He is a member of the bands Portishead, Beak and supergroup Quakers, and has scored several films. Portishead—formed in 1991—was named after the small coastal town near Bristol where Barrow grew up. On his intentions in forming Portishead, he has stated, "I just wanted to make interesting music, proper songs with a proper life span and a decent place in people's record collections." Koolism
''Koolism'' is an Australian hip hop duo originating from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. The members are lyricist Hau Latukefu (born Langomi-e-Hau Latukefu, 1976, Queanbeyan, Australia) and producer/DJ/musician Danielsan Ichiban (born Daniel Elleson, 1975, Auckland, New Zealand). History ''Koolism'' started out in 1992 when Elleson (aka DJ Rampage) joined a group by the name Tribe Ledda L (L for Latukefu), which comprised Hau and his cousins Hounga and Sione. By 1995 only DJ Danielsan and Hau remained and they changed the name to Koolism, from a song with that name which they recorded the previous year. Obese Records was a record label that released music from the Australian hip hop genre. It was the largest Australian independent hip hop label, including performers Pegz, Thundamentals and Dialectrix. Obese Records also operated two retail stores in Melbourne, a record distribution company, a soul imprint named Plethora Records, and operates the artists' management and touring company Obese Records Artist Management. History Founding as OB's record store Obese Records was founded in 1995 as a small record store called OB's by Ollie Bobbitt, in the Melbourne suburb of Prahran. Downsyde are an Australian hip hop group from Perth, Western Australia. The group is composed of three members, Optamus, Dazastah and Dyna-Mikes. The group has performed alongside groups including Jurassic 5, Cypress Hill, Grandmaster Flash, The Black Eyed Peas, and The Roots. Godnose
Godnose are an Australian metalcore band from Brisbane, which formed as a three-piece in 1995 by founding mainstay Ben Jones on guitar, lead vocals, trumpet and percussion. By 2004 they were a four-piece and his fellow members were Lindsay Beasley on drums, Greg on bass guitar and backing vocals and Claire Obst on lead vocals. The group toured Europe twice by 2007. History Godnose were formed as a three-piece hardcore punk band by Ben Jones (ex-Blowhard, Pangaea) on guitar, vocals, trumpet and percussion in Brisbane in 1995. Jehst
William G. Shields (born 1979), better known by his stage name Jehst, is an English rapper and co-founder of hip hop label YNR Productions. Biography Born in Kent in 1979, Jehst spent his early childhood in Crowborough in Sussex before moving to Huddersfield where he went to Honley High School.
