Hurricane Creek is a tributary of the Black Warrior River located in Southwestern Tuscaloosa County in western Alabama. It is over 30 miles long and its watershed covers approximately 120 square miles. It is used by communities around it, including the city of Tuscaloosa, for recreation and offers a wide variety of aquatic life and quality aesthetics. Three areas of this stream are on the federal 303(d) list of impaired streams, meaning they are protected by the Clean Water Act from further degradation. Current threats to water quality include active coal mining, abandoned mine lands, siltation, and some areas with high fecal coliform bacteria levels. Paint Rock River
The Paint Rock River is a tributary of the Tennessee River in northern Alabama in the United States. Its tributaries also drain a portion of south-central Tennessee. The river is formed in northeastern Jackson County by the confluence of Estill Fork and Hurricane Creek, and flows generally southwardly, past the town of Paint Rock. In its upper course, the river flows through a deep valley cut into the Cumberland Plateau. In its lower course, the river is used to define part of the boundary between Madison and Marshall Counties. Hurricane Creek is a stream in northern Howard County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary of the Missouri River which it enters just south of Glasgow.Missouri Atlas & Gazetteer, 1998, Delorme p.30 The stream headwaters arise approximately one mile west of Missouri Route 5 five miles northwest of Fayette at at an altitude of 850 feet. The stream flows due west six miles passing under Missouri Route 87 about one mile south of Glasgow to its confluence with the Missouri at at an elevation of 614 feet.
