Hurricane Creek (Missouri River)
Hurricane Creek is a stream in northern Howard County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary of the Missouri River which it enters just south of Glasgow.Missouri Atlas & Gazetteer, 1998, Delorme p.30 The stream headwaters arise approximately one mile west of Missouri Route 5 five miles northwest of Fayette at at an altitude of 850 feet. The stream flows due west six miles passing under Missouri Route 87 about one mile south of Glasgow to its confluence with the Missouri at at an elevation of 614 feet. Howard County, Missouri
Howard County is located in the U.S. state of Missouri, with its southern border formed by the Missouri River. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,151. Its county seat is Fayette. The county was organized January 23, 1816, and named for Benjamin Howard, the first Governor of the Missouri Territory. Glasgow, Missouri
Glasgow is a city on the Missouri River mostly in northwest Howard County and extending into the southeast corner of Chariton County in the U.S. state of Missouri. The population was 1,087 at the 2020 census. The Howard County portion of Glasgow is part of the Columbia, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Glasgow was laid out and platted in 1836, partially from land acquired from former Missouri State Treasurer James Earickson The city was named for James Glasgow, a local merchant. A post office called Glasgow has been in operation since 1837. Missouri Route 5
Missouri Route 5 is the longest state highway in Missouri and the only Missouri state highway to traverse the entire state. It is part of a three state, 650 mile highway 5. To the north, it continues into Iowa as Iowa Highway 5 and to the south it enters Arkansas as Highway 5. With only a few exceptions, it is two-lane for its entire length. Fayette, Missouri
Fayette is a city in and the county seat of Howard County, Missouri, United States. It is part of the Columbia, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area. Missouri Route 87
Route 87 is a highway in central Missouri. Its southern terminus is at U.S. Route 54 in Eldon, and its northern terminus is at Route 5/ 240 in Glasgow. Parts of the road are overlapped by the Lewis and Clark Trail and Santa Fe Trail. Route description Route 87 begins at an interchange along U.S. Route 54 (US 54) which is also shared by Route M. The route runs northwest and then curve west just before an abandoned Rock Island railroad crossing.
