''Huron Street'' is the eighth album by Canadian guitarist Don Ross, released in 2001. The twelve compositions in this collection were all released previously, some on collections that were only available in Canada. They were all newly recorded for this release. It reached number 9 on the Billboard Top New Age album chart. Don Ross (guitarist)
Donald James Ross, or Don Ross, (born November 19, 1960) is a Canadian fingerstyle guitarist. He is the only person to win the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship twice (1988 and 1996). His album '' Huron Street'' reached the top ten on the ''Billboard'' New-age chart. Biography Ross was born in Montreal, Quebec to Scottish and Mi'kmaq parents. He studied composition at the music department of York University in Toronto with David Mott, James Tenney and Phil Werren. After receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music in 1983, he studied philosophy at St. Hyacinth College and Seminary in Granby, Massachusetts while living at San Damiano Friary in Holyoke, Massachusetts and then started his novitiate for the Canadian custody of the Conventual Franciscans of Immaculate Conception Province at St. Francis Friary in Staten Island, NY. Narada Productions
Narada is a record label formed in 1983 as an independent new-age music label and distributed by MCA. A fully owned subsidiary of Universal Music Group and distributed by Capitol Music Group's Blue Note Records, the label evolved through an expansion of formats to include world music, jazz, Celtic music, new flamenco, acoustic guitar, and piano genre releases. Label history In 1979, John Morey started a mail-order business to sell new-age music. Virgin Records is a record label owned by Universal Music Group. It originally founded as a British independent record label in 1972 by entrepreneurs Richard Branson, Simon Draper, Nik Powell, and musician Tom Newman. ''Robot Monster'' is the ninth album by Canadian guitarist Don Ross, released in 2003. It is his third and final recording on the Narada/ Virgin label. The album takes its title from the science-fiction film of the same name. Reception Music critic Mark Deming, writing for AllMusic, wrote "The disc is mostly balanced between the sort of aggressive, mojo-working-again kind of optimistic intensity and more reflective ballads that show a heart in the healing process. Knowing the story of his wife's passing from cancer makes the lush, languid, steel guitar-enhanced "Goodbye Kelly Goodbye" a true tearjerker." Critic Bernard Richter praised the album and wrote "Each one of the 12 tunes has a strong musical foundation, and the listener—while taken aback because of Ross' sheer virtuosity—is easily pulled into the music itself." In music theory, a minor seventh is one of two musical intervals that span seven staff positions. It is ''minor'' because it is the smaller of the two sevenths, spanning ten semitones. The major seventh spans eleven. For example, the interval from A to G is a minor seventh, as the note G lies ten semitones above A, and there are seven staff positions from A to G. Diminished and augmented sevenths span the same number of staff positions, but consist of a different number of semitones (nine and twelve, respectively).
