Huntsman World Senior Games
The Huntsman World Senior Games is the largest annual multi-sport senior competition in the world (Most participants are U.S. citizens, but athletes from Canada, Australia, Russia, Japan and several other countries also participate). The Games was founded in 1987 as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, All athletes aged 50 and over, of all skill levels, are eligible to compete. No pre-qualification is necessary. In addition to self-registered entries, invitation-only tournaments are also included, such as the Global Cup World Senior Volleyball Championships. In 2018, 11,033 athletes from around the world participated. This participation level is comparable to the number of athletes at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Greater Zion Stadium
Greater Zion Stadium, originally Hansen Stadium and later Trailblazer Stadium, is a stadium on the campus of Utah Tech University in St. George, Utah. It is primarily used for American football, and is the home field of the Utah Tech Trailblazers football and soccer programs. The stadium holds 10,500 people. In 2002 and 2003, it hosted the Paradise Bowl which was a post season college football all-star game. After the seating expansion in 2017, Greater Zion Stadium became the largest stadium in the southern portion of Utah. MLS soccer club Real Salt Lake played their first match at Hansen Stadium on March 29, 2007, versus the BYU soccer club which, at the time, played as a minor league professional club and not in a collegiate league. Masters athletics is a class of the sport of athletics for athletes of over 35 years of age. The events include track and field, road running and cross country running. Competitors are bracketed into five-year age groups (which promotes fair competition). For international events the first age group is 35 to 39. Men as old as 105 and women in their 100s have competed in running, jumping and throwing events. Masters athletes are sometimes known as "veterans" and the European Masters Championships, for instance, is known as "Eurovets." The National Senior Games (Senior Olympics) are a sports competition for senior citizens in the United States. It is conducted by the National Senior Games Association (NSGA) once every two years. Akin to the Summer Olympics, it is a multi-sport event devoted to adults above the age of 50. It consists of regional competitions held yearly in all states of the US. Pickleball
Pickleball is an indoor or outdoor racket/paddle sport where two players (singles), or four players (doubles), hit a perforated hollow polymer ball over a net using solid-faced paddles. Opponents on either side of the net hit the ball back and forth until one side commits a rule infraction. Pickleball was invented in 1965 as a children's backyard game on Bainbridge Island, Washington, USA. In 2022, pickleball was adopted as the official state sport of Washington. The appearance of a pickleball court, and the manner of play, resemble tennis, but the court is the size of a doubles badminton court, less than a third the size of a tennis court.
