Hunting Creek, Virginia

	Hunting Creek, Virginia Hunting Creek is a cove and tributary stream of the Potomac River between the Alexandria, Virginia, City of Alexandria and Fairfax County, Virginia, Fairfax County in Virginia. It is formed by Cameron Run flowing from the west. The community of Huntington, Virginia, Huntington takes its name from the creek. Jones Point (Virginia), Jones Point forms the north side. Dyke Marsh is just to the south. The George Washington Memorial Parkway and Mount Vernon Trail cross it on a bridge. The creek is sometimes referred to as "Great Hunting Creek", to distinguish it from Little Hunting Creek. Dyke Marsh consists of about of tidal marsh, floodplain, and swamp forest. It formed 5,000 to 7,000 years ago. With a total size of 485 acres, Dyke Marsh is one of the largest remaining pieces of freshwater tidal wetlands left in the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area. The marsh is managed by the National Park Service as part of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Dyke Marsh contains a wide array of plant and animal life. 	Little Hunting Creek Little Hunting Creek is a U.S. Geological Survey. National Hydrography Dataset high-resolution flowline dataThe National Map, accessed August 15, 2011 primarily tidal tributary of the Potomac River located in Fairfax County, Virginia, not to be confused with Hunting Creek farther north. A stone-arch bridge, completed in 1931, carries traffic on the George Washington Memorial Parkway across the narrow mouth of the creek, located upriver from the mouth of the Potomac. 	Mount Vernon Trail The Mount Vernon Trail (MVT) is a long shared use path that travels along the George Washington Memorial Parkway in Northern Virginia between Rosslyn and George Washington's home at Mount Vernon. The trail connects the easternmost portions of Arlington County, the City of Alexandria, and Fairfax County, and travels mostly on dedicated trail with a small portion on city streets. 	Jones Point (Virginia) Jones Point is a geographic point on the Potomac River within the city of Alexandria, Virginia, United States. The Jones Point Light and Jones Point Park are located at the point, which is immediately North of the confluence of Hunting Creek and the Potomac River. The 1791–1792 survey of the original boundaries of the District of Columbia began at a spot that was then at the tip of a cape at the Point. 	Huntington, Virginia Huntington is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population was 11,267 at the 2010 census. It is located next to the southern border of the city of Alexandria and is part of the Washington metropolitan area. Its main component is the namesake Huntington subdivision, a late-1940s neighborhood of mainly duplex homes.
