Hungarian Handballer Of The Year
The Hungarian Handballer of the Year award is an annual prize, which is given to the Hungarian handballer who is considered to have performed the best over the previous calendar year. Presented by the Hungarian Handball Federation since 1964, the most successful handball player is Anita Görbicz, with six nominations. During the long history of the award, only one handballer playing abroad has received the title, namely László Nagy in 2009, who played for FC Barcelona Handbol Futbol Club Barcelona Handbol is a Spanish handball team based in Barcelona, Catalonia. István Szilágyi
István Szilágyi (born October 6, 1950, in Tököl) is a Hungarian former handball player. His first major international tournament was the 1974 World Championship, where he finished seventh with Hungary. He represented his country on further two World Championships in 1978 and 1982. In 1976 he was part of the Hungarian team which finished sixth in the Olympic tournament. He played all five matches and scored fifteen goals. Four years later he finished fourth with the Hungarian team in the 1980 Olympic tournament. He played three matches and scored three goals. István Varga (handballer)
István Varga (; 7 September 1943 – 6 December 2014) was a Hungarian international handball player and Olympic participant. Varga spent his most successful years in Debrecen, where he was part of the Debreceni Dózsa SE, that won 5 Hungarian league and 3 cup titles in the 1970s. He was also named Hungarian Handballer of the Year in 1975 and was the top scorer of the Hungarian championship six times between 1972 and 1979. He played 127-times for the Hungarian national team and competed at a number of major tournaments. In 1972 he was part of the Hungarian team that finished in the eighth place at the 1972 Summer Olympics. Varga played all six matches and scored 32 goals. At the 1976 Summer Olympics the team finished in the sixth place. He played all five matches and scored 21 goals. Amália Sterbinszky
Amália Sterbinszky (born 29 September 1950) is a former Hungarian handball player who was voted the best female handballer of the twentieth century in Hungary. She competed in two Olympic Games (1976, 1980), winning the bronze medal at the first one. Sterbinszky also collected three bronze medals at the World Championships and crowned her long and successful international career with a silver at the 1982 World event, which was held on home soil. Sterbinszky finished her career in Denmark, subsequently taking the coaching position of the Danish national team. Károly Vass (14 June 1944 – 6 September 2021) was a Hungarian handball player who competed in the 1972 Summer Olympics and in the 1976 Summer Olympics. Ágota Bujdosó
Ágota Bujdosó (born 2 June 1943 in Budapest) is a former Hungarian international handball goalkeeper. Career Club Bujdosó started her career in 1957 in Vasas and has spent her entire career by the Angyalföld-based team. She enjoyed her best spell in the seventies, having won the Hungarian Championship seven times in a row between 1972 and 1978 and capturing four Hungarian cup titles beside. In addition, she has reached the final of the European Champions Cup 1978, but lost out 19–14 against TSC Berlin. For her services, the loyal shot-stopper was awarded the Golden Ring of Vasas SC in 1991. Márta Giba (; born 1943) is a former Hungarian handball player and World champion, who was voted the Hungarian Handballer of the Year in 1971. A one-team player, Giba played for Ferencvárosi TC between 1962 and 1979, during which period she won three Hungarian championships and as many Hungarian cup titles.
