Hundred Of Dalrymple
The Hundred of Dalrymple is a cadastral unit of hundred in South Australia on the southern Yorke Peninsula. It is one of the 16 hundreds of the County of Fergusson. Proclaimed on 20 June 1872, it is officially thought to be named after Dalrymple, East Ayrshire, Scotland. The townships of Stansbury and Wool Bay, as well as the north eastern part of the modern bounded locality of Yorketown, are within the hundred boundaries. Dalrymple substation, midway between Stansbury and Wool Bay at Hayward Corner, is named for the hundred. Name Officially it is thought to be named after Dalrymple, East Ayrshire, Scotland, but it may alternatively have been named after the father of James Fergusson, the state governor of the day, Charles Dalrymple Fergusson. County of Fergusson is a cadastral unit located in the Australian state of South Australia which spans Yorke Peninsula south of Price. It was proclaimed in 1869 by Governor Fergusson after whom the county was named. Description The County of Fergusson covers the part of Yorke Peninsula "lying to the south of the south boundary of the County of Daly, including Wauraltee Island", the county boundary approximately aligning with Price town centre. History The County of Fergusson was proclaimed by Sir James Fergusson, the eighth Governor of South Australia on 18 February 1869 along with three of its constituent hundreds, Melville, Moorowie and Para Wurlie. The county was named after Governor Fergusson, who held office from 1869 to 1873. Lands Administrative Divisions Of South Australia
The lands administrative divisions of South Australia are the cadastral (i.e., comprehensively surveyed and mapped) units of counties and hundreds in South Australia. They are located only in the south-eastern part of the state, and do not cover the whole state. 49 counties have been proclaimed across the southern and southeastern areas of the state historically considered to be arable and thus in need of a cadastre. Within that area, a total of 540 hundreds have been proclaimed, although five were annulled in 1870, and, in some cases, the names reused elsewhere. All South Australian hundreds have unique names, making it unnecessary, when referring to a hundred, to also name its county (as is done in some land administration systems such as that of New South Wales). The Yorke Peninsula Council is a local government area in South Australia. Its boundaries include most of the Yorke Peninsula. The council seat is at Maitland; the council also maintains branch offices at Minlaton and Yorketown. The District Council of Minlaton was a local government area in South Australia from 1888 to 1997 seated at Minlaton on the Yorke Peninsula. History The District Council of Minlaton was officially proclaimed on 5 January 1888 by the ''District Councils Act 1887'' as constituting the Hundreds of Curramulka, Koolywurtie and Minlacowie, and the unincorporated portion of the Hundred of Ramsay. "DISTRICT OF MINLATON.—Comprising the Hundreds of Curramulka, Koolywurtie, and Minlacowie, and that portion of the Hundred of Ramsay not heretofore included in the District of Dalrymple." The District Council of Central Yorke Peninsula was a local government area in South Australia from 1969 to 1997. The council seat was at Maitland. History The District Council of Central Yorke Peninsula was formed on 1 April 1969 with the amalgamation of the Corporate Town of Maitland and the original District Council of Yorke Peninsula at the request of the two councils. It had seven wards at its inception: Kilkerran, Maitland Township, Maitland District, Ardrossan Township, Cunningham, Wauraltee and Muloowurtie, each electing two councillors. It initially operated out of the Maitland and District Hall, which was refurbished for this purpose, but in 1983 moved into an office block in Elizabeth Street, Maitland. Charles Dalrymple Fergusson
Sir Charles Dalrymple Fergusson, 5th Baronet of Kilkerran FRSE (1800–1849) was a Scottish lawyer. Life He was born at Fort George in Inverness-shire on 26 August 1800. He was the eldest son of Sir James Fergusson, 4th Baronet, fourth baronet, and his wife Jean Dalrymple, daughter of Sir David Dalrymple, baronet ( Lord Hailes). He was educated at Harrow, and became an advocate in 1822, practising at the Scottish bar until his father's death. He was a member of the Speculative Society, and at its meetings read two essays, one on the ''Origin and Progress of Criminal Jurisprudence'', and the other on the ''History of Painting''. Fergusson was an active promoter of almost every scheme of usefulness throughout Scotland. Sir James Fergusson, 6th Baronet (14 March 1832 – 14 January 1907) was a British soldier, Conservative politician and colonial administrator. Background and education Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Fergusson was the eldest son of Sir Charles Fergusson, 5th Baronet, and his wife Helen, daughter of David Boyle. He was educated at Cheam, Rugby, and University College, Oxford (although he left without taking a degree). He entered the Grenadier Guards in 1851 and served in the Crimean War where he was wounded. He retired from the army in 1859. Political and administrative career Fergusson was elected Member of Parliament for Ayrshire and represented the constituency in parliament from 1854 to 1857 and 1859 to 1868.
