Humpolec
Humpolec (; german: Humpoletz) is a town in Pelhřimov District in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 11,000 inhabitants. Administrative parts Villages of Brunka, Hněvkovice, Kletečná, Krasoňov, Lhotka, Petrovice, Plačkov, Rozkoš, Světlice, Světlický Dvůr and Vilémov are administrative parts of Humpolec. Geography Humpolec is located about northwest of Jindřichův Hradec, roughly halfway between Prague and Brno. It lies in the Křemešník Highlands. The hill Krásná vyhlídka with an altitude of is the highest point of the municipal territory. There is a significant amount of small ponds, some of them are in the urban area. History The first written mention of Humpolec is from 1178. In the 13th–15th centuries it was a silver mining town. Ivan Martin Jirous
Ivan Martin Jirous (23 September 1944 – 9 November 2011) was a Czech poet and dissident, best known as the artistic director of the Czech psychedelic rock group The Plastic People of the Universe, and later one of the key figures of the Czech underground during the communist regime. He is more frequently known as Magor, which can be roughly translated as "shithead",Zantovsky 2014, p161 "loony", or "fool" (though meant as a positive title), a nickname given to him by the experimental poet . David Holoubek
David Holoubek (born 8 June 1980) is a Czech football manager who is currently the manager of Czech Republic U19. Career Early career In his player career he played in 3rd Czech league. His manager career started in Humpolec. He moved to Prague in 2004 for study sport in Charles University. Sparta Prague During his study he started in Sparta Prague as assistant in U15 team. As assistant of Petr Janoušek he trained Ladislav Krejčí, Jiří Skalák or Pavel Kadeřábek. In 2012, he became head coach at Sparta's U19 team. In season 2015/16 Sparta U19 won Czech 1st junior league. In June 2016 he became assistant of Zdeněk Ščasný in Sparta's A-team (he was still coach of U19). In September 2016 head coach Ščasný was fired after losing the Prague derby against city rivals Slavia Prague with Holoubek becoming acting head coach. Bernard Brewery (officially in Czech ''Rodinný pivovar Bernard'') is a brewery in Humpolec, Czech Republic, founded in 1597. The brewery produces non-pasteurised beers. It is the biggest brewery in the Vysočina Region. In 2009, the beer was first exported to Peru, adding to its existing international markets of countries including Slovakia, Greece, Russia, Sweden, Norway, the UK, Australia, the US, Japan and Brazil. The brewery, which employs over 150 people, produced a 231,600 hectolitres of beer in 2013 and 315,000 hectolitres of beer in 2016. Joseph Drapell
Joseph Drapell (born March 13, 1940) is a Czech-Canadian abstract painter. Early life Drapell was born in Humpolec, Czechoslovakia, and emigrated to Canada in 1966. From 1968-1970 he studied at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. At the Cranbrook Academy he met visiting Canadian artist Jack Bush and the American art critic Clement Greenberg. Bush influenced his work by telling him to pay more attention to intuition. He moved permanently to Toronto in 1970 and during the period from 1972 through 1974, in Toronto, he developed a technique of applying paint with a broad spreading device attached to a movable support having also been influenced by the American painter Morris Louis. Dušan Kadlec (December 21, 1942 – September 12, 2018) was a Czech-Canadian painter, born in Humpolec, Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic). He pursued his interest in art from a very early age, ultimately studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague where he received a master's degree in 1967. His studies there covered twenty-two subjects, including bookbinding, papermaking, drawing, painting, portraiture, as well as the more conventional subjects of history, political economics, languages, and math. His undergraduate and graduate training focused on traditional painting techniques but also explored aspects of sculpture, jewellery design, art restoration, and architecture. While a student at the academy, he specialized in figurative painting and portraiture. Upon graduation Kadlec began to exhibit and receive both private and state commissions. Jaroslav Augusta
Jaroslav Augusta (September 4, 1878 in Humpolec - February 28, 1970 in Banská Štiavnica) was a Czechoslovak painter, based in modern-day Slovakia. Background From 1897-1901 he studied with Professor M. Pirner at the Academy in Prague and later (1901–1904) at the Academy in Munich with J. Hertericha and K. Marr. His artistic education was completed at a private studio. In 1901, he founded an art colony at Detva, and in 1903 was among the founders of the Group of Hungarian-Slovak artists. He was heavily influenced by European and Slovak open-air landscape painting. He also excelled as an author with a social theme and genre paintings, often including ethnographic elements. Whilst at Važec he painted many watercolors which are a permanent reminder of this village. In 1920 he settled permanently in Banská Štiavnica, where he became professor of drawing.
