Hugo Winzer
Dr. Hugo Winzer (1862 – 13 January 1937 in Dresden) was a German pair skater. He was German pair champion in 1912 with his wife Hedwig Winzer. Hugo Winzer studied chemistry at the university in Leipzig at this time. Due to a bad lung-illness he had to quit his job. To recover he moved to Switzerland where he also trained skating. Dr. Hugo Winzer married Hedwig Müller from Berlin. They competed in pair skating also internationally. After his skating career he became an international figure skating judge, so at the Worlds 1926. Pair Skating
Pair skating is a figure skating discipline defined by the International Skating Union (ISU) as "the skating of two persons in unison who perform their movements in such harmony with each other as to give the impression of genuine Pair Skating as compared with independent Single Skating".S&P/ID 2021, p. 109 The ISU also states that a pairs team consists of "one Woman and one Man". Pair skating, along with men's and women's single skating, has been an Olympic discipline since figure skating, the oldest Winter Olympic sport, was introduced at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. The ISU World Figure Skating Championships introduced pair skating in 1908. Like the other disciplines, pair skating competitions consist of two segments, the short program and the free skating program. The World Figure Skating Championships (''"Worlds"'') is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union. Medals are awarded in the categories of single skating, men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance. The German Figure Skating Championships ( ger, Deutsche Meisterschaften im Eiskunstlaufen) are a figure skating national championship held annually to determine the national champions of Germany. Medals are awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. History Unofficial German Figure Skating Championships were held from 1887 to 1889 in Hamburg. The first official competition was held in Munich in 1891 in the men's category only. In its early years, Germany and the Austrian part of Austria-Hungary had joint championships.
