Hugo Calderano
Hugo Marinho Borges Calderano (born 22 June 1996, in Rio de Janeiro) is a table tennis player from Brazil. In January 2022, he peaked at number 3 in the world rankings, becoming the greatest Americas player of all time. He is the first-ever player from Latin America to reach the Top 10 of the ITTF World Rankings. Calderano is also well known for beating China's Fan Zhendong at the quarterfinals of the 2018 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals in Incheon, South Korea. Career 2021 In 2021, Calderano announced he was leaving the German Bundesliga and switching to the Russian Champion's league to focus more on international competition. The 2018 ITTF Pan-America Cup was a table tennis competition that took place from 15–17 June in Asunción, Paraguay. The event was organised by the Paraguay Table Tennis Federation, under the authority of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). It was the second edition of the event. The 2018 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals was the final competition of the 2018 ITTF World Tour, the International Table Tennis Federation's professional table tennis world tour. It was the 23rd edition of the competition, and was held from 13–16 December in Incheon, South Korea. The competition featured events in five categories: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. ITTF World Tour Grand Finals
The ITTF World Tour Grand Finals, formerly named ITTF Pro Tour Grand Finals, is an annual table tennis tournament sanctioned by International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) at the end of the year. The tournament includes seven events: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, mixed doubles (new in 2018), U21 men's and women's singles. Players who accumulated the largest number of points on the ITTF World Tour are qualified for the event, and competing for total prize money of US$1,000,000, the biggest total prize money event in the ITTF calendar. Table tennis at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics was held from 17 to 23 August at the Wutaishan Sports Center in Nanjing, China. Qualification Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) can enter a maximum of 2 competitors, 1 per each gender. As hosts, China is given the maximum quota should they not qualify an athlete and a further 8 spots, 4 in each gender, will be allocated by the Tripartite Commission, however one spot was unused and was reallocated. The remaining 54 places shall be decided in four qualification phases: the 2014 World Qualification Event, the Under-18 World Rankings, six Road to Nanjing series events and six continental qualification tournaments. To be eligible to participate at the Youth Olympics athletes must have been born between 1 January 1996 and 31 December 1999. The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is an international multi-sport event for athletes between 15 and 18 years old, organized by the International Olympic Committee.
