Hugo Birger
Hugo Birger (born Hugo Birger Peterson) (12 January 1854 – 17 June 1887) was a Swedish painter. Biography Born in Stockholm, his father was printmaker S. A. Peterson. Birger studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts from 1870 to 1877. In 1877, he was awarded with the "Royal medal" for his painting ''Syndafallet''. It was praised for its strong colors and shininess. Birger moved to Paris in 1877, and spent the summer of 1878 in Barbizon with Carl Larsson and Carl Skånberg. He debuted at the Paris Salon the following year with ''Rue Gabrielle'' (1879, now in the Gothenburg Museum of Art). He submitted his painting ''Toaletten'' (English: ''The Toilet''), which depicts a lady in front of the toilet mirror, to the Paris Salon in 1880. Ernst Josephson
Ernst Abraham Josephson (1851-1906) was a Swedish painter and poet. He specialized in portraits, genre scenes of folklife and folklore. Background He was born to a middle-class family of merchants of Jewish ancestry. His uncle, Ludvig Josephson (1832-1899) was a dramatist and his uncle Jacob Axel Josephson (1818-1880) was a composer. When he was ten, his father Ferdinand Semy Ferdinand Josephson (1814-1861) left home and he was raised by his mother, Gustafva Jacobsson (1819-1881) and three older sisters. Career With his family's support, Josephson began to pursue art professionally at the age of sixteen, enrolling at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. Georg Pauli
Georg Vilhelm Pauli (2 July 1855, Jönköping - 28 November 1935, Stockholm) was a Swedish painter, known primarily for portraits and figures. He was also the author of numerous art-related books. Biography His father, August Ferdinand Pauli (1815-1904), was an apothecary and manufacturer. The family was descended from Lieutenant General Wilhelm Pauli (1730-1800). The original Pauli came from Italy under the sponsorship of Emperor Rudolf II, during the early part of the Thirty Years' War and later went to Sweden, where he was accepted into the nobility in 1625. He originally studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts during the 1870s and 1880s, then made several study trips abroad, primarily to Paris and Italy. He later became a teacher at the Valand Academy in Gothenburg. In 1887, he married his fellow painter, Hanna Hirsch. Robert Thegerström
Robert Thegerström (6 January 1857 – 9 August 1919) was a Swedish painter and graphic artist. Biography Robert Thegerström was born in London where his father, Johan Robert Thegerström, was a wholesale merchant. After finishing his primary education, he worked in his father's company for a year before entering the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. His fellow students there included Ernst Josephson, Carl Larsson, Bruno Liljefors and Richard Bergh, who would later join to create a dissident group known as the Opponent movement (''Opponenterna'') who were seeking modernization and reform of art education, exhibition activities and artist support. After finishing his studies in 1880, he went to Paris. He would remain in France for twelve years. He studied figure and landscape painting at several famous studios, including the Académie Julian. Per Hasselberg (1 January 1850 – 25 July 1894), until 1870 ''Karl Petter Åkesson'', was a Swedish sculptor. He has received critical acclaim mainly for his delicate and allegorical nudes, copies of which are widely distributed in public places and private homes in Sweden. Biography Hasselberg was born 1 January 1850 in the small village Hasselstad near Ronneby in the province of Blekinge in the south of Sweden. He grew up as the sixth child in a poor family. Alfred Wahlberg
Herman Alfred Leonard Wahlberg (13 February 1834 – 4 October 1906) was a Swedish landscape painter. Early life Alfred Wahlberg was born in Stockholm, Sweden. His father was a painter and his mother worked with carving. Wahlberg learned his father's profession as a child, but became a student at Royal Swedish Academy of Music after showing precocious musical talent. He studied piano and clarinet at the academy. After finishing his studies, Wahlberg joined the orchestra Göta gardes musikkår, and earned money (25–50 öre per hour) by giving piano lessons. He received preparatory education at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts at the same time, although he never became a real student there.
