Hubert Henchman
Hubert James Hungerford Henchman (29 August 1876-18 February 1963) was an Australian barrister and public servant who served as the Solicitor-General of Queensland from 5 August 1937 to 31 December 1945. Henchman also served as the Crown Solicitor of Queensland from 2 March 1923 to 4 August 1937. Henchman was born in London to William and Jane Henchman, coming to Australia in 1878 where he resided in Melbourne. He later resided in Rockhampton in 1883, where his father would become a Judge of the District Court. Henchman married wife Nelsey Ridgeway in 1915. Solicitor-General Of Queensland
The Solicitor-General of Queensland, known informally as the Solicitor-General, is the state's Second Law Officer, and the deputy of the Attorney-General. The Solicitor-General can exercise the powers of the Attorney-General in their absence. The Solicitor-General acts alongside the Crown Advocate and Crown Solicitor, and serves as one of the legal and constitutional advisers of the Crown and its government in the Australian state of Queensland. The Solicitor-General is addressed in court as "Mr/Ms Solicitor". Despite the title, the position may only be filled by a barrister of at least ten years standing, for a period of five years. The inaugural Solicitor-General was Thomas Byrnes, who served from 12 August 1890 to 13 March 1893. The position was then vacant until 1922, when William Webb was appointed. Barrister
A barrister is a type of lawyer in common law jurisdictions. Barristers mostly specialise in courtroom advocacy and litigation. Their tasks include taking cases in superior courts and tribunals, drafting legal pleadings, researching law and giving expert legal opinions. Barristers are distinguished from both solicitors and chartered legal executives, who have more direct access to clients, and may do transactional legal work. Rockhampton is a city in the Rockhampton Region of Central Queensland, Australia. Solicitors General
A solicitor is a legal practitioner who traditionally deals with most of the legal matters in some jurisdictions. A person must have legally-defined qualifications, which vary from one jurisdiction to another, to be described as a solicitor and enabled to practise there as such. For example, in England and Wales a solicitor is admitted to practise under the provisions of the Solicitors Act 1974. With some exceptions, practising solicitors must possess a practising certificate. There are many more solicitors than barristers in England; they undertake the general aspects of giving legal advice and conducting legal proceedings.
