Hubert Bath
Hubert Charles Bath (6 November 188324 April 1945) was a British film composer, music director, and conductor. His credits include the music to the Oscar-winning documentary ''Wings Over Everest'' (1934), as well as to the films ''Tudor Rose'' (1936), ''A Yank at Oxford'' (1938) and '' Love Story'' (1944). Biography Bath was born in Barnstaple, Devon in 1883. He sang in the local church choir and in 1899 attended the Royal Academy of Music, studying piano with Oscar Beringer and composition with Frederick Corder. In 1913-14 he conducted Thomas Quinlan's opera troupe on its world tour, also acting as chorus master. He conducted "Madame Butterfly" at the London Opera House in July 1915, in a performance that starred Tamaki Miura. After that he established himself as a composer of light operas, including ''Young England'' (Birmingham, 1915) and '' Bubbole'' (Milan, 1920), extending the genre towards grand opera with ''Trilby''. Jean Aylwin
Jean Aylwin (10 October 18851964), also known as Jean Isabella Griffin Aitkin, was a Scottish actress and singer, often billed as "The Lady Harry Lauder". Aylwin was best known for creating character roles in successful Edwardian musical comedies early in the 20th century. She turned to roles in non-musical plays by World War I, continued to act into the 1920s and was later a radio broadcaster. Her divorce in 1924 from a colonel in the Intelligence Corps involved allegations of infidelity. Early life and career Aylwin was born in Hawick and was educated at George Watsons College, Edinburgh. She began her professional stage career in 1904 with a touring company playing character roles in smaller towns in the British provinces in such melodramas as ''The Red Coat'' and ''No Cross, No Crown''. ''Tell England'' is a 1931 British drama film directed by Anthony Asquith and Geoffrey Barkas and starring Fay Compton, Tony Bruce and Carl Harbord. It is based on the 1922 novel '' Tell England'' by Ernest Raymond which featured two young men joining the army, and taking part in the fighting at Gallipoli. Both directors had close memories of Gallipoli, as did Fay Compton's brother, Compton Mackenzie. Asquith's father H. H. Asquith had been Prime Minister at the time of the Gallipoli Landings, a fact which drew press attention to the film, while Barkas had personally fought at Suvla Bay in the Gallipoli campaign.
